After Eugenio Derbez, one of the celebrities who participated in the campaign against the construction of the Maya Train, responded to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) after accusing him of having received money from the bloc opposing his administration, the journalist Victor Trujillo asked the federal president to follow his example.

Through his Twitter account, the producer shared the actor's statement, who indicated that no one paid him to support any political party or to protest against the construction of stretch 5 of one of the flagship works of the current management.

I don't need someone to come and pay me some pesos to support a political party, I don't get yellow envelopes and I will continue to protest against the construction of section 5 of the Maya Train,” Derbez said.

Along with the message, Trujillo asked President López Obrador to follow the actor's example, since he assured that the campaign carried out by celebrities does not violate the ban for the Mandate Revocation consultation, nor does it attack the electoral bodies.

On March 22, as part of World Water Day, artists and singers launched the national campaign Sélvame Del Tren to raise awareness among citizens and express their concerns about the modification of section 5 of the Maya Train, which runs from Tulum to Cancun, without allegedly consulting with the people or showing the respective impact studies.

Among the celebrities who participated were Eugenio Derbez, Kate del Castillo, Natalia Lafourcade, Omar Chaparro, Ana Claudia Talancón, Rubén Albarran and Barbara Morí .

According to the actors and singers, the modification of section 5 would destroy the largest underground river system in the world, and with it, the flora and fauna of the area.

In addition, in a series of videos, they claimed that the changes were made without consulting the citizens or carrying out the respective impact studies.

Given this, several netizens, activists and supporters of the Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party attacked the celebrities, claiming that their campaign was paid for by the opposition group.

The criticism that stood out the most was that of President López Obrador, who described them as pseudo-environmentalists allied with the conservatives and the “fifis”.

“Now it's the Mayan Train, they convince or hire artists, pseudo-environmentalists, supposedly concerned about the defense of the Environment and are starting a campaign against the Maya Train,” the federal president lashed out.

A day later, the chief executive took up the idea that the videos were financed and manufactured by a third party.

These celebrities, either they paid them or they do it out of conviction, because they are very bothered by what is happening in the country, they are our adversaries and some are very uninformed, one that I was clearly reading, reminded me of some politicians from before”

And he added: “These celebrities put them to read. Who knows who made the texts, who financed. It is not that they have been paid, there is also that possibility that they have been paid, but it did cost the production and someone is behind it: Claudio X. González”.
