This Saturday, March 26, formally begins the Barranquilla Carnival, one of the most important cultural events in Colombia and which will be in force until next Tuesday, March 29.
These four days have undoubtedly been much longed for by the Barranquilleros and all the national and international tourists who attend this event, since they were two years without Barranquilla Carnival due to the covid-19 pandemic and another year of having executed the renowned holiday through virtuality.
It should be remembered that traditionally carnival takes place in February, but due to the fourth peak of the pandemic it had to be postponed until the end of March, respecting biosecurity protocols, according to the current situation of the planet.
During these four days of carnival, attendees will be able to enjoy nearly 19 events that will include artistic interventions in different parts of the city, folklore presentations, parades and popular celebrations such as the Carnival of Soledad.
It should also be noted that since March 1, different pre-carnival activities have been held such as the one called 'Joselito Vive' with the exhibition of macro figures on the Malecón del Río. Just as on March 18, the Guacherna Esthercita Forero parade was held with a tribute to Anibal Velásquez over the entire 44th race.
Likewise, as part of the popular festivities, on March 19, the Coronation of the Popular Queen was held, an event that took place on the Great Malecón del Rio. For its part, on March 20, the presentation of the Tradition and Fantasy Comparsas was held in the Sacred Heart Park; and last Friday the 25th, the coronation of the Queen of the Carnival of Barranquilla was celebrated.
Schedule for this Saturday, March 26
This Saturday, March 25, the Battle of Flowers takes place, a traditional event that takes place on Via 40 from noon. Likewise, from 2:00 p.m. attendees to the famous Barranquilla Carnival will be able to accompany the King Momo parade, which takes place on 17th Street in the capital of the Atlantic.
Later, from 5:00 p.m., both Barranquilleros and national and international tourists will be able to enjoy an event called 'Dance the Street', in which an orchestra night takes place and attendees enjoy music and dance in the 50th race.
To end this first day of the Barranquilla Carnival, attendees of this important national event will be able to enjoy the 'Great Carnival Concert', an activity that will take place from 8:00 p.m. at the Romelio Martínez Stadium.
