On the morning of March 26, Capi Pérez underwent surgery as he suffered from varicocele, a condition that affects the functioning of the testicles. The presenter shared that he is currently doing well and explained what this condition consists of.
Through her stories on Instagram, Capi Pérez announced that she decided to have surgery because she was diagnosed with varicocele. Although it did not pose a danger to his health, he made the decision to be treated in the operating room as a preventive way.
The short explanation given by the comedian would be correct according to the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI), an institution that explains on its website that this condition is the dilation of the veins that are part of the spermatic cord, which drains the testicles. Varicocele is due to the malfunction of the valves of such veins.
At first, varicoceles may not be bothersome, but later symptoms such as tingling, pain, heaviness, or crawling sensation in the scrotum may develop. If they become aggravated, “the scrotum or testicle increases in volume, causing pain or discomfort to the point of limiting the various passive movements of the hip,” explains the SEMI.
This disease is usually diagnosed in men between the ages of 15 and 25. It is rare for a person older than this age range to suffer from varicocele, but there are those who may have it sooner. Likewise, it is usually the veins on the left side of the scrotum that are affected, although there have also been cases where they are those on the right. It is unknown what causes a varicocele, so it is not preventable.
Mayo Clinic explains on its website that “a varicocele is similar to a varicose vein you can see in the leg,” they are easy to diagnose and, in most cases, they don't need urgent treatment because they are usually harmless. Otherwise, they can affect the health of those who suffer them.
Varicoceles present complications such as “low sperm production and quality”, which can result in infertility; however, this is not the case in all cases, so the importance of seeing a doctor if symptoms occur, explains Mayo Clinic.
In children, varicoceles may even affect the development of the testicles or shrink.
Capi Pérez explained that, in his case, he decided to treat it surgically to prevent it from getting worse. Since it is not an invasive procedure, he is currently well and at home, in the company of his wife Sandra Itzel, better known as Hello Nurse.
Finally, he shared that what hurts him the most this Saturday is not his recent surgery, but not being able to go to a Grupo Firme concert at the Foro Sol.
