On Friday night in Bogotá, Foo Fighters fans, such as those attending the Estéreo Picnic festival who were waiting to see Dave Grohl's band, were not out of dismay when they heard the tragic news of the death of Taylor Hawkins, their drummer for the past 20 years.
The only official statement the group made about the artist's departure was through their Twitter account, where, in addition to regretting the fact, they requested respect for privacy and their relatives.
“Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family. We ask that your privacy be treated with the utmost respect at this unimaginably difficult time,” they published.
However, some Colombian media have revealed some details about Hawkins' last hours of life, as was the case with Semana magazine, where close sources told them that the artist had not been right within a few hours of their marching north of the Colombian capital, where the third one would take place. presentation in the South American country.
In his absence, they went to look for him in his room at the Casa Medina hotel. There they repeatedly knocked on his door, but, in the absence of response, they opened and found him apparently unconscious, they reported in that media outlet.
After the discovery, the gang's security officers contacted medical personnel who arrived at the hotel in a few minutes, and although they tried to revive it, it was too late.
Another witness to what happened told in that magazine that it was initially thought to have been a decompensation due to altitude, since the Colombian capital is 2,600 meters above sea level.
“The paramedics arrived in an informal car. They came in through the parking lot. We thought that (the members of Foo Fighters) were going to leave for the show there in Briceño. It was already 7:40 at night. We thought it was a decompensation due to altitude,” the witness told Semana.
Then they saw the vehicles that carry out the body surveys arrive in Colombia, and they realized that someone had died inside the hotel.
Although the authorities' version of the causes of Hawkins' death has not been officially known, in the newspaper El Tiempo they indicated that, according to city police sources, one of the hypotheses points to the use of narcotics by the drummer.
“The cause of death is yet to be established, according to accounts of relatives, death could be associated with the use of narcotic substances. The Sijin Laboratory and researchers go to the scene of the events for the development of urgent acts”, they quoted from the information they had received.
However, one of Colombia's renowned music journalists, Alejandro Marín, criticized the fact that this possibility was being talked about, through a Twitter thread.
“Now don't start blaming the country because Taylor died in Colombia if she died of an overdose, don't be such assholes,” he said.
The journalist was told on the social network that this was very difficult due to the stigma that the country bears, to which the journalist replied: “And the (stereotype) of gringos being consumers then? Don't screw around.”
