Twitter added a new update that allows users to search for messages within the Direct Messages (MD) inbox using both names and keywords.

“You can now use the search bar in your inbox to find specific messages using keywords or names,” the social network announced through a tweet posted to its official account. “We know that they have been waiting for this option for a long time,” the company stressed.

This new feature will now accompany the ability to search for users or groups within the MDs. At the end of 2019, the social network introduced the search bar on iOS devices, but it only allowed to search for conversations. Two years later, this functionality was also implemented on Android.

Twitter will begin with this latest update to display three options in the MD search bar: People, Groups and Messages. The update is already being implemented in both the web version and the iOS and Android app.

To update the service, go to Google Play or Apple Store, search for the application and press the “update” button. It should be noted that as this is a recent update that was made globally, it may take a few days to reach all users.

How to mark Tweets as offensive and irrelevant

Another novelty that the platform added in recent times is the possibility of marking tweets as offensive or irrelevant. This is an option known as “bajivotos”, which is available, on a limited basis, to some users in Latin America, the United States and other regions of the world, both on iOS, Android and desktop versions.

To make use of this alternative, simply click on the down arrow icon that appears when asking for tweets, right between the heart and share icons. When you click on the arrow, it will turn red.

The objective is to limit comments that are not useful or offensive so that they lose strength. “We're always looking for new ways to increase healthy engagement and engagement on Twitter. We are still in the learning phase of this experiment and we seek to better understand how the Bajivotos could help us, in the future, to give greater visibility to the most relevant content for people on Twitter. At this stage, the Bajivotos are still private and have no impact on the order of the answers,” they explained to Infobae from the social network.

Test participants agreed that this feature helps to raise the quality of conversations on Twitter, which are known among users as the most “toxic” of all social networks. This was spread by this social network when it announced this feature in February.

Fight fake news and prevent cases of grooming

The social network also announced other tools to improve online conversation. In addition to the option already mentioned, he presented the Birdwatch program to stop the spread of misinformation through this social network. The system relies on community collaboration to provide context information in tweets considered potentially misleading.
