The first 'reconciliation' meeting between César Gaviria and the Historical Pact did not go as expected

This, after the vice-presidential formula Francia Márquez pointed out the liberal chief to be the leader of neoliberalism and to divide the state

After several petroist politicians begged the director of the Liberal Party, César Gaviria, to allow them to speak for breaking ties with the Historical Pact, the former president accepted and gave them a telephone opportunity.

This was revealed by Blu Radio, which spoke with several sources from Gustavo Petro's coalition entourage, who assured that the head of the liberals remains steadfastly in not joining petrianism in the first presidential round, after criticism from the vice-president candidate, Francia Márquez.

The media even assured that César Gaviria placed a condition on the representatives of petrianism. “Either you do civilized politics, or you don't agree to meet with absolutely anyone,” César Gaviria would have said in the phone call he had with progressive politicians.

That meeting comes after the senator-elector of that coalition, Roy Barreras, announced that he will be requesting an appointment with Gaviria to restore relations for the first round of elections on May 29.

This was said by the congressman during the morning of last Thursday, March 24, in a press conference, attended by the vice-presidential candidate Francia Márquez and the entire bench of the Historical Pact. Gustavo Petro, presidential candidate, was there for the photo, but then he left.

In his announcement, Barreras excused himself for the criticism sent to him on Wednesday by Francia Márquez, which is why the head of the liberals disengaged himself from joining Petro in the presidential elections.

“César Gaviria must be respected. Agreements are made with the different ones. All our hands stretched out and we started to create bridges. President Gaviria, I ask you for an appointment,” said the political leader.

However, although Barreras somehow scolded the social leader for her questioning Gaviria, during the press conference she assured that “Francia Márquez must be loved because she represents the most vulnerable,” the senator said, in turn saying:

For now, nothing has been said, however, this Friday it became known that journalist Daniel Coronell spoke to a source close to former President César Gaviria, who told him that he would be thinking of freeing his militants for the first round of the upcoming presidential elections, given the obvious differences between the candidates Sergio Fajardo, Gustavo Petro and Federico Gutiérrez. On March 29, Gaviria would meet with the elected congressmen to propose his idea so that the militants vote as they see fit.

This is because it is impossible, or so it seems, to achieve consensus among the senators and liberal representatives who have been elected. According to Coronell's source, who communicated for W Radio, none of the fourteen senators who are already insured are supporters of Gustavo Petro, but Gaviria thinks that the voters of his party would be more with the man of the Historical Pact than with Fico and, regardless of the instruction given or not by the party, liberals would be inclined to vote for the leader of Human Colombia, since, according to the former president, this candidate's speech is more in line with the liberal ideals of always.

According to the source version, Gaviria thinks that Petro does not need the adherence of the liberal hierarchy to win. He believes that the official support of the party is crucial for the candidate to be able to reach the presidency. “It's not just to get a majority in Congress, it's to put together a prepared cabinet that gives confidence to the country and the international community,” he said.
