A real tragedy lives the American band, Foo Fighters, because of the death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins . A fairly similar situation was experienced decades ago by its leader and vocalist Dave Grohl, who had to face the loss of his friend Kurt Cobain.
In an interview he had years ago, the former drummer from Nirvana told what his first impression was when he learned that his partner had committed suicide. According to his statements, at that moment he thought of retiring from music.
“I wasn't sure about playing music again. Dreams always give me this initial burst of happiness and joy, because Kurt is always in them. It's like, 'Oh! he's still alive! ' There's never an explanation for that. Just that charming feeling,” he said.
In addition, in his book Storyteller, he said that when he decided not to continue with Nirvana, Tom Petty offered him a job as a drummer for Hearbreakers, but he refused the job offer because he was not sure what he wanted at that point in his life.
“Every time I sit on a drum stool, I see Kurt,” he recalls. “I had a kind of post-traumatic stress disorder and afraid of letting it break me down. When Tom Petty asked, he wasn't ready to go there yet,” he said.
Away from the stage, Dave Grohl dedicated himself to writing and recording songs that would later become Foo Fighters' first album. The former drummer from Nirvana had to reinvent himself to become the leader of a new band and become more confident.
“I don't know many people who fasten a bungee rope trusting that they will survive the fall. That's why you're doing it. Just being unsure about yourself can be a great motivator. You know, I'm not sure I can do this. Let me see if I can. Let me prove me wrong. So, yes, it took me a decade to get comfortable as the leader and singer of Foo Fighters. I love it now,” he recalled.
Now the leader of the rock band must face another tragedy in his long musical career, as his friend Taylor Hawkins died in a hotel in Bogotá, Colombia, where they arrived to perform at the Estéreo Picnic festival as part of their South American tour.
COURTNEY LOVE AND HER ATTACK ON DAVE GROHL
Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain's ex-partner, accused the singer and leader of the band Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, of having enriched himself with the music he recorded years ago when he was a member of the band Nirvana.
“Three months before I left Los Angeles, I signed a document that gave Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic - bass player from Nirvana - the money of my descendants perpetually. It was so broken... I was so afraid and I was so tired of it, that I was forced to sign it,” she wrote.
“But it's a lie, so now I'm going to remove my signature from it. Because it doesn't make sense. The chaos and fury with which he directed at me over Kurt's death as he grew rich and even today he continues to grow rich, gorging himself with Kurt's fortune and his renown... 27 years! Enough is enough,” he said.
