The rock band of American origin, began its journey in the music industry in the city of Seattle founded in 1994, the origins of the group can be traced back to Dave Grohl who was a former drummer of Nirvana and Scream. Along with its creator, other artists were joined by other artists such as Pat Smear on rhythm guitar, Chris Shifflet playing as the lead guitar, Rami Jaffee on the organ and Taylor Hawkins as the drummer and who sadly died on the night of March 25.
Named by his parents as Oliver Taylor Hawkins in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1972, Hawkins grew up in Laguna Beach, California and was the drummer for Foo Fighters for 25 of the band's 28 years of existence, replacing the original drummer William Goldsmith in 1997.
The band that had a long history of performing at concerts and music festivals in Germany, Austria, France, the United States, Argentina and Colombia, among others, would perform on the night of last Friday, March 25 at the Estéreo Picnic Festival to delight thousands of fans who crowded on the Golf Course with their songs and Picnic Briceño 18 on the outskirts of the country's capital.
On a stage set up for the dozens of musical groups to present the best show, after two years of a long pandemic, the organizers heard the tragic news that the drummer who was part of the Foo Fighters died on the premises of the hotel where the band that arrived in the country about three days ago.
“With a broken heart we are here to tell you some very sad news, due to a very serious medical situation: Foo Fighters will not be able to show up tonight and has canceled the rest of their South American tour, the festival is still going on... this is a situation that is completely out of our hands. We are very sorry and we ask for a lot of understanding,” said the Picnic Stereo Festival in a statement reporting the regrettable news.
Subsequently, the band also shared a statement through their social networks in which they reported the devastating news of the death of Taylor Hawkins, in which they also expressed a feeling of affection and condolences for their wife, children, family and closest friends.
Immediately, the news spread through social networks, there were hundreds of messages that among followers and personalities of national and international entertainment, expressed their messages of condolence and sadness at the death of the musical star and who defined himself as “I am not simply a drummer, I am musician, artist and rock singer”.
Desolate and not understanding what happened, so were the Colombian fans of the rock band who were waiting to see them at the Estéreo Picnic Festival and some who could not attend, crowded in front of the premises of the hotel where the Foo Fighters were staying in Bogotá.
Among the elements they deposited in front of the hotel facilities were some bouquets of white flowers, candles, some lit and others extinguished by gusts of wind as the carriages passed over Bogotá's busy Seventh Carrera, posters supporting the fans were some of the interesting things. that were seen in front of the location.
Infobae Colombia compiled some interviews with fans who were in front of the hotel premises to get their opinion on this regrettable event and some claimed that it took them by surprise while they were at the festival.
That is the case of Diana, a young woman who regretted the death of her idol and with tears in her eyes, with her eyes a little dull because of what happened, she told how she felt when she heard the news.
“I found out at the Estéreo Picnic last night because they announced it before its presentation and well it was a total shock, it was too surprising, too sad, I think the mood of the festival changed completely with that news too and well, here we are paying tribute to Taylor Hawkins,” said the fan of the band for this media outlet.
As the minutes passed, fans and other curious people approached the place who wanted to know what happened to the drummer, at that time another faithful follower of Foo Fighters approached the place where flowers and candles were arranged, lighting one by one and asking for the eternal rest of Taylor's soul Mr. Hawkins.
After a few moments, Diana Salas, a fan of the American rock band talked about what she felt the moment she heard about the bad news and how was her reaction to confirming it.
“I couldn't go to the Estéreo Picnic, but I went to see the film coincidentally, I go out and someone in the audience says that the drummer died... I started watching networks and that's how I found out, news began to appear and it's devastating because he was a man with a lot of life, he was a man who was always smiling, making jokes, on March 20 were in Argentina at Lollapalooza, playing drums and from time to time he sang... it's unreal that he happened here a few hours after performing in Colombia,” said Diana Salas.
It is worth mentioning that Taylor Hawkins took his first steps in music after listening to the songs of the Queen group, which was his inspiration to become a musician.
