Oscar 2022: Where can you watch animated films that aspire to a statuette?

Tomorrow, Sunday, March 27, the Academy Awards will be presented. We tell you what platforms are the animated nominees on

The cards are already on the table and next Sunday the winning films will be defined. The world of animation has very good proposals, some of them had their time in movie theaters and others directly premiered on platforms. We tell you where you can see them and what each one of them is about.

Encanto, Disney Plus

It is the one that sounds the loudest to take a statuette this Sunday. Created by Jared Bush, Byron Howard and Charise Castro, the film recreates the life of the Madrigal family that has magical powers, except for one of its members, Mirabel. The plot will go after this young woman who is in search of her talent while trying to solve the disappearance of Uncle Bruno. Apart from this nomination, the film has set foot in the category of Best Original Song for “Dos oruguitas”, which will be performed at the gala by Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra. As it transpired, the most popular theme of the film, “There is no talk of Bruno”, will be part of the musical repertoire of the Oscar ceremony on Sunday. The soundtrack corresponds to Lin-Manuel Miranda while the score is by Germaine Franco. It is a song to Colombian culture and refers to the magical realism created by the great writer Gabriel García Márquez.

Flee

Animated film that also competes for Best Documentary and Best International Film representing Denmark. Flee animously traces the life story of Amin, a Dane who is about to marry his partner, an Afghan refugee who had to flee his country. Riz Ahmed (Sound of metal) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) are producers of this fiction that aims to win one of the three awards for which it is nominated.

Luca, Disney Plus

“Quiet, Bruno! ”, was one of the phrases that coined this tender film that can be seen on the Disney Plus platform and that won a nomination for Best Animated Film at these 2022 Oscars. The film Exit from Pixar tells the story of the life of Luca, a badly called “sea monster”, who, when he leaves his habitat (the bottom of the ocean), acquires human physiognomy. Directed by Enrico Casarosa, Luca is set in a picturesque fishing village in Italy. Little Luca's goal is to explore the world as a child while sharing his days with a friend with whom he decides to enter a competition to win a motorcycle. A song to life that invites us to reflect on diversity.

The Mitchells against the machines, Netflix

The film was acquired by Netflix although it came out of the Sony factory. Directed by Michael Rianda and written by Rianda and Jeff Rowe, it was endorsed by two promising producers such as Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, creators of The Afterparty, a series that can be seen on AppleTV+. The film talks about the world of technology in Silicon Valley from the eyes of a girl and her family, while robots managed by an evil character want to end the world.

Raya and the Last Dragon, Disney Plus

This animated film is directed by Don Hall, Carlos López Estrada, Paul Briggs and John Ripa, and takes us to the imaginary world of Kumandra. Humans lived there for thousands of years with dragons in full harmony, but unknown forces full of hatred and ambition destroy all the dragons and their gems. A young woman named Raya (who in the Latin American version is voiced by Danna Paola) is a warrior who walks alone through life after her father died defending Kumandra. She will be in charge of searching for the last dragon and thus regaining lost order.

In Latin America, the Oscars will be broadcast on TNT (in Spanish) and TNT Series (original language) channels, and broadcast times will vary by country: 18.00 in Mexico, 19.00 in Colombia and 21.00 in Argentina and Chile.
