More news about the death of Taylor Hawkins. The legendary Foo Fighters drummer was found lifeless in a hotel in Bogota, Colombia, on the night of March 25. The 50-year-old musician was in that country as part of a scheduled tour of Latin America, which had the band as the star closing of the Festival Lollapalooza Argentina.
The news of his death has shocked fans all over the world and also that of several international artists, who have mourned the death of Taylor Hawkins to through social networks. So far, the reasons for the death have not been disclosed, but it was initially speculated that it would be associated with the use of narcotic substances. However, a second theory has been given: he would have died of a heart attack, according to the Bogotá Ministry of Health.
In the midst of the investigations, an anecdote that the leader and vocalist of Foo Fighters told during an interview for a documentary went viral on Twitter. In the clip, Dave Grohl is heard talking about the song he dedicated to his friend of more than 25 years when he fell into a coma due to a heroin overdose. We mean “On the Mend”.
“I don't know if Taylor knows, but on the acoustic album there is a song that is for him called “On the Mend”. I wrote it when he was in a coma due to an overdose. It's about Taylor. I never told him it's for him. It's a love song that talks about a dying friend. I put it on the record and I thought you'd notice, but we never got to talk about it. I don't want to talk about that either,” he said.
TAYLOR HAWKINS AND RELATIONSHIP WITH DRUGS
The late drummer of Foo Fighters had a brush with death in 2001, when he was 29 years old. At the time, he overdosed on heroin and fell into a coma for two weeks. This disconcerting experience took him away from drug use, he said a few years ago.
“There was a year when the holidays got a little heavy. And thank God, on some level, this guy gave me the wrong line or the wrong thing one night, and I woke up thinking, 'What the hell happened? ' That was a real turning point for me,” he said in 2018.
In another report, in 2021, the musician shared heartbreaking details of that experience. “I was partying in London one night, and by mistake I did something and it changed everything. I believed the myth of the damn life of living hard and fast, dying young. I'm not here to preach about not using drugs, because I loved doing it, but I lost control for a while and it almost got me,” he said.
According to Taylor, waking up from a coma became a fact that completely changed for his life for the better. “I'm glad he hit me in the head at that time. Nor would I take anything away from what I've done or what I've been through, because it's all part of the journey and the journey. I'm trying to be as honest as I can be.”
LETRA DE “ON THE MEND”
One more day that I've survived
Another night alone (Otra noche solo)One more day that I’ve survived
Another night alone
Pay no mind I’m doing fine
I’m breathing on my own
I’m here, and I’m on the mend
I’m here, and I’m on the mend my friend.
Wake me when the hour arrives
Wake me with my name
See you somewhere down the line
We’re tethered once again
One more day that I’ve survived
Another night alone
Pay no mind I’m doing fine
I’m breathing on my own
I’m here, and I’m on the mend
I’m here, and I’m on the mend my friend.
Wake me when the hour arrives
Wake me with my name
See you somewhere down the line
We’re tethered once again
I’m here, and I’m on the mend
I’m here, and I’m on the mend my friend (x2)
Was it you? Sat Alone, here we go...
Close your eyes and stay a while
To take me where you go
Single file we walk the mile
Who’s wandering back home
I’m here, and I’m on the mend
I’m here, and I’m on the mend my friend (x2)
Was it you? Sat alone
Here we go... (x4)
