Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard attended the Doha Forum in Qatar, where he held bilateral meetings with his counterparts in Kazakhstan, Turkey and Jordan, with whom he spoke out in favor of a peaceful solution to the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

He highlighted the meeting of the Mexican Foreign Minister with Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, a country neighboring Russia and which is strategic in the military conflict that the Russian army is holding on Ukrainian territory, as we must remember that a month ago the Kazakh government refused to involve its troops in the invasion despite its alleged alliance with the Kremlim.

During their meeting in Qatar, Marcelo Ebrad and Mukhtar Tileuberdi called for an early exit from the armed conflict through dialogue and called for strengthening the multilateral system. The photograph of the meeting was disseminated on social networks by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) without any further details of the topics discussed having been provided so far

Despite the disagreement over the military incursion into Ukraine, this week the governments of Russia and Kazakhstan agreed to create a working group to boost oil transit to China, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said to Interfax news agency.

The Doha Forum discusses the problems faced by the international community, such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and precisely for that reason the virtual appearance of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, who called for reform of international institutions because he was unable to prevent the invasion of his country, was surprised by the virtual appearance of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky

“We need real reform of international institutions so that a country cannot do what it wants,” Zelenski said at the opening of the Forum.

According to the SRE, Marcelo Ebrard is touring countries in the Middle East to promote investments in Mexico. Qatar is also expected to address issues related to the organization of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as in 2026 Mexico will be one of the next venues, along with the United States and Canada.

This week, the head of the U.S. Northern Command, Glen Van Herck, told the U.S. House of Senators that the largest number of Russian intelligence agents are in Mexico.

Regarding these statements, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that Mexico “is not a colony of Russia, nor of China, nor of the United States,” and claimed that he had no information about the alleged presence of Russian spies on national territory.

“We have no information about that and yes, we do not prevent anyone, any foreigner who wants to carry out legal activities in the event that they want to do so. Those who are criminals are arrested, neither Mexicans nor foreigners are allowed to commit crimes in our country,” said the head of the executive.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard called on that nation's entrepreneurs to make investments and businesses in Mexico, in sectors such as tourism, agribusiness, infrastructure and innovation and technology. This is why he presented them with details of the Maya Train project and its impact on southeastern Mexico.

Ebrard highlighted that Mexico has favourable investment conditions, including political stability and broad support for the government, and stressed the strength of its finances, its network of trade agreements - mainly the T-MEC -, logistics infrastructure, among other aspects.

The Chancellor's tour of the Middle East and Asia will continue in the United Arab Emirates and India. It is in the latter country that he hopes to learn details of the pharmaceutical industry that allowed him the rapid development of a vaccine during the coronavirus crisis, in order to strengthen Mexico's response capacity to a future pandemic.
