The federal deputy of the National Action Party (PAN), Gabriel Quadri de la Torre, assured that he will hold for the presidency of Mexico in the next elections in 2024.
The PAN deputy's statements were made through Twitter, a platform where one of his users commented that “the deterioration of the right wing in Mexico is so great” when she contemplated, according to the netizen, blue-and-white senator Lilly Tellez and Quadri as possible candidates in 2024.
Faced with this, Quadri de la Torre replied: “Of course, I will be running for president in 2024. Thank you and very honored.”
He later compared the performance of former President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa (2006-2012) as Chief Executive with the political career of current Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
“Felipe Calderón has worked more as a former president than what Lopez has worked all his life,” said the blue and white deputy.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Gabriel Quadri has expressed his intentions to participate in the 2024 elections.
“I have expressed to our PAN president, Marko Cortés, my desire to participate in the process to define the opposition's presidential candidacy for 2024,” the 67-year-old politician wrote on March 9.
As reported by Quadri de la Torre, netizens mocked the PAN deputy and even rushed against Marko Cortés, emphasizing that the candidate for the blue and white party must meet a “serious” profile and have ample opportunities to win the elections. Some users of the social network even indicated that it is a “strategy” orchestrated by the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) to win the elections.
“They should have a consensus of someone presidential. Come together for a candidate who is truly serious and who can win.” “So that the PAN is last on the ballot? Yes please”, “With that you assure 98% of the votes to Morena”, “How many times will we have to teach the old man a lesson? ” and “I wish you are the candidate, that way we could already aspire to the complete disappearance of the PAN”, were some of the comments that, at that time, Quadri de la Torre's publication received.
Days prior to the deputy's post, the national leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés, gave names about who could represent the blue and whites in the 2024 presidential elections.
In a meeting with the media, the national leader of the PAN assured that the party “has excellent governors”, as well as praised the work of various legislators “who have raised their hands” to appear on the ballots.
“This is the case of Lilly Tellez, the vice-president of the Board of Directors, Santiago Creel, who said 'I am ready if the party requires me' and what we have to do is that these leaders begin to act, to position themselves outward to show that we have enough cards and cards, not only to win the presidency of the Republic, but really for the good of governing the country,” said Marko Cortés at the beginning of March.
Also, when questioned about the role played by the governors of Acción Nacional within the democratic process, Cortes immediately called out the name of the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, who, according to her statements, has an “excellent profile.”
However, the former candidate for the presidency of Acción Nacional in 2018, Ricardo Anaya, who reappeared on Cortés's list was the former candidate for the presidency of Acción Nacional in 2018, whom he described as a “politically persecuted”.
