The unexpected and painful news of the passing of Taylor Hawkins a few hours after the presentation, at the central show of the Estéreo Picnic Festival, which was confirmed by the band on their official social networks, took the music world by surprise. The most surprised were those attending the event, who notified them of the event at the beginning of the presentation of the soul band Black Pumas.
Preliminarily it is known that the drummer would have felt bad, he notified the staff of the Hotel Casa Medina, where the Foo Fighters were staying, but, when the medical services arrived, they found Hawkins dead in his room. In addition, it is known that the musician's body is in Legal Medicine and his remains were transferred from the hotel at 1:30 in the morning.
According to the director of La FM, Luis Carlos Vélez, official sources have confirmed that the American musician was last seen on Thursday afternoon, when he asked for help in the lobby of the Casa Medina Hotel, north of Bogotá, to be able to use Netflix, while he was having a telephone conversation.
More than 24 hours later, the musician was found dead in the room, where authorities found a can of beer, a bottle of vodka, a glass cup, a bottle of soda and 5 glass bottles. Also, according to Velez, a white powdery substance would have been found that would, in the words of one of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police officers who accessed the site of Hawkins' death, resemble cocaine.
This points to Taylor Hawkins having died of an overdose. The speculation is based on a history of drug abuse, which led him to be in a coma for a week, in 2001, when he overdosed on heroin.
Last year he gave an interview where he talked about this event and assured that since that day, he had not consumed anything again, he was clean:
Hawkins also said:
He concluded by saying:
While the drummer was going through that difficult time, Dave Grohl, vocalist and leader of the band, wrote him a song “On the Mend”, where he expressed his affection, but never told him that he had composed the song for him.
, said Grohl, who has already experienced a similar situation, while he was the drummer of Nirvana and its leader Kurt Cobain committed suicide in a room of his house.
At the time, the singer assured that if his friend died, he would retire from music.
The band, in a statement, when they announced the event, expressly asked that the privacy of their family be respected at this difficult time.
