The police station in the El Lido neighborhood, south of Cali, was struck by an artifact that exploded in the parking lot of the place. Immediately, the safety protocols in these cases were activated to measure the damage.
However, in the first instance Colonel William Quintero, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police of Cali, assured that there are no fatalities or injuries due to the incident. He also commented on what happened:
“The launch of an IM-26 grenade on the back of the station is presented. Fortunately, we had no news with affecting anyone,” said Quintero.
Some residents of the sector captured on video the serious situation that occurred after hearing the rumble that alerted the neighbors. There you can see how several patrols and other mobiles needed to respond to the emergency were made available.
Everything indicates that two people aboard a motorcycle were responsible for throwing the grenade, so the authorities are already working to find the whereabouts of the antisocials who would have perpetrated the violent act against the security forces.
Among the damage are three affected cars, while according to reports the two people identified from the attack would have been security cameras close to the scene.
“The subjects were mobilizing on a motorcycle, they took the entire fifth street towards the upper area of Siloé,” said the deputy commander of Cali.
This station would have suffered another attack a year earlier, so the relationship between the two reproachable acts, in which many people could have been injured or killed, would be investigated.
In terms of security figures in Cali, fewer homicides were reported in January 2022 compared to the last 30 years, which meant that there were 72 violent deaths, but in addition to security efforts made earlier this year, 68 firearms and more than 170 traumatic weapons were seized that are increasingly gaining force among criminal gangs.
However, in the midst of the operations they also found the confiscation of up to 500 kilograms of explosives. The report for the previous year reveals a decline in homicides of up to 21%.
The seizure of drugs by then also revealed a high traffic in drugs, with a total seizure of 1 ton of narcotic drugs, according to data from the Municipal Government at the time.
Meanwhile, the authorities, faced with this new case, are studying the possibility of being able to offer a reward to find the whereabouts of these people, although they have not yet announced the measures they will certainly take.
Cali is among the cities with the highest rate of violence, according to the most recent report of the Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice of Mexico, which was responsible for showing that the figures for both the capital of El Valle and Medellín have high homicides, comparable only to the crude violence that occurred between 80′ and 90′ in the country.
