Bogotá will invest $4 billion to double lanes north of the city

The district says the works will last five years and plans the creation and maintenance of 22 lanes for Bogotá's road infrastructure

The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, announced the beginning of “the most important road infrastructure work of the last 60 years in the city, with an investment of 4 billion pesos”, the main objective of these works will be to double the number of lanes for the North Rim of Bogotá Region.

In total, the District's plan envisages the creation and maintenance of 22 lanes for Bogotá's highway infrastructure, during the installation of the project, the Bogotá president stated, that “all these roads will double the number of lanes for the North Rim of Bogotá Region, with an investment of 4 billion pesos. In terms of regional infrastructure, with the next national government, on the North Rim we hope to finalize the Highway of the River and the Northern Regiotram,” said the mayor.

What does the North Road Plan include?

1. The North Highway will be complete from 193rd Street to the border with Chia. It will be 6.1 kilometers of mixed traffic lanes. It will have four new lanes, plus the existing six lanes. Total investment: $1,031,087,704,706

2. Avenida Carrera Seventh - Corridor Verde Seventh completes from 24th Street to 245th Street and will be 5.46 Km.

3. Boyacá Avenue from 170th Street to 183rd Street will have a length of 1.27 kilometers, and from 183rd Street to 242nd Street, which will be 7.67 kilometers. Total investment: $72,334,000,000 (17th Street to 183rd Street) Total Investment: $175,049,147,149 (183rd Street to 242nd Street)

4. Borde Norte Avenue, from Cota Avenue to the District boundary will be 5.73 kilometers. Estimated investment: $383,933,165,739

5. The Highway del Rio, from the boundary of the District to the Andes, which will be 3.53 kilometers long and includes six new lanes. Estimated investment: $179,422,000,000

6. The Andes Highway, from the River Highway to the North Highway with 3.53 kilometers with four lanes. Estimated investment: $236,524,271,389 7. The Regiotram del Norte will be a 47.5 kilometer project that will connect Bogotá with the municipalities of Sabana Norte, and will be developed between the Government of Cundinamarca and the District. Estimated investment: $16.4 billion.

Finally, the North Highway Connection will have a length of 7.6 kilometers, as well as the extension of the road to four lanes per direction; as will the extension of Carrera Seventh (in Chia), from the district boundary to La Caro, which will have 4.12 kilometers to which two new lanes will be added to the two already existing lanes.

The president's announcements were made in the middle of a tour about the Ninth Race in the work Avenida Laureano Gómez, which has an advance of 21 percent.
