Annual declaration 2022: how to know if there is a balance in favor in the SAT

Those who comply with their tax obligations can request a refund if they have paid more than they owed

People who file their annual return with the Tax Administration Service (SAT) can check if they have a balance in favor and request a refund.

With information from Article 2 of the Federal Law on Taxpayer Rights, the balance refund in favor “occurs when when calculating your taxes, it turns out that you paid more than you owed, so you can ask the SAT for the amount to be refunded.”

For its part, the annual return consists of an official document through which individuals or corporations report all the operations they did during the previous year: record the income received, the deductions, file at zero, the calculation of the tax per year and request a refund in favor.

The SAT highlighted the dates for making the annual return, after taxpayers comply, you can see if there is a balance in favor. In the case of corporations that are companies, they must comply with and estimate the Income Tax (ISR) by Thursday, March 31, 2022; the deadline for individuals is Saturday, April 30.

Those who make the declaration have the right to obtain a refund of the balance in favor only if it turns out that they paid more than they owed. It can be requested up to five years after the date on which the return was filed and the deadline within which the SAT will respond will be a maximum of 40 days, the procedure is free of charge.

How do I check if I have a balance in favor of the SAT?

* You must enter the SAT portal at the link https://www.consulta.sat.gob.mx/_mem_bin/FormsLogin.asp?/DevMan/.

* You need to enter your Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC) and password.

* Then, fill in all the information requested by the system, on the same site it will give you information about your tax refund.

* Enter the scanned documents of the procedure.

* Then download and save the electronic acknowledgment of receipt of the return request.

* Finally, you have to sign and send the procedure with the electronic signature.

* Through the Check your automatic return section you can follow up on the procedure.

What can I do if they do not authorize the return?

* If they do not authorize it or it was only part of what they owed, taxpayers can file a supplementary return with all corrected inconsistencies.

* Then, request the return through the Electronic Returns Form.

* The tax authority announced that statements with a balance in favor that are authorized are subject to the inconsistencies of the banking CLABE, ex officio compensation, which is a figure used by the SAT to recover the outstanding firm credits to be covered by the taxpayer.

What are the requirements for automatic return processing?

* The automatic refund is made at the time of making the annual declaration online with the password and the portable e.signature, if the balance in favor is less than or equal to 10 thousand pesos it can be done with the password.

* When it is greater than 10,000 pesos and up to 50,000 pesos, you can also file the return with the password but additionally you must add a CLABE account with its 18 digits in DeclaraSAT.
