General practitioner Fabio Enrique Polo Mendoza was sent to prison, who is accused of sexually abusing a woman who was five months pregnant, who came to the emergency room of a clinic in Ibague (Tolima) in 2015.
“He was arrested by servers of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI), with the support of the National Police, in a hospital in the city for his alleged responsibility for the crime of aggravated violent carnal access of which a pregnant woman was the victim in 2015. This is the fourth victim for which the Attorney General's Office charges the health professional,” said Anderson Pinilla Sandoval, director of the Tolima Section of the Prosecutor's Office.
In the investigation by the prosecutor, they found that the victim had gone to the emergency room at night, once she was treated, the accused conducted an examination and due to her vulnerability, secured the door of the office, covered her mouth and sexually abused her.
After perpetrating this crime, the Prosecutor's Office, through the Comprehensive Centre for the Care of Victims of Sexual Abuse (Caivas) in Tolima, charged him with the crime of aggravated violent carnal access, a charge that the doctor did not accept. Subsequently, they imposed an assurance measure on him.
Apart from this case, the alleged sexual predator is involved in three other cases in which his status as a health professional would have been used to perpetrate these crimes.
“Polo Mendoza is being investigated by three victims of sexual crimes in events that occurred in 2011, 2012 and 2019. However, due to expiry of terms, he had been released a few months ago, and the prosecutor managed to capture him for new events in which he would have violated the physical and sexual integrity of a patient when she was admitted to a clinic in the Tolima capital by emergency department,” explained the director of the Tolima Section of the Prosecutor's Office.
According to Alerta Tolima, the 2011 case corresponds to that of a 27-year-old woman who suffered from problems in her menstrual cycle and consulted him because of her condition. There the man made comments of sexual connotation and tried to kiss her, so she fled in fear from the office.
On that station they also reported that the other case of which he is accused occurred in 2012, and the victim was a 44-year-old psychiatric patient who had problems with some drugs. She arrived at the Ibagué Clinic with a headache and was treated by the alleged sexual predator who forced her to take off her clothes, and then abuse her.
This case was revealed, after the woman told her relatives what happened, who precisely filed the complaint. Polo Mendoza then denied the accusation on the grounds that the victim was drug dependent.
And finally there was the case of an 18-year-old girl who went to a National Army dispensary for a urinary condition in 2019. There the doctor pretended that he was going to examine her and took advantage of her vulnerability due to her health problem to sexually abuse her.
“The man who was working in the same area of health was imposed on him an insurance measure after he did not accept the charges charged by a tax delegate attached to the Comprehensive Center for the Care of Victims of Sexual Abuse (Caivas) in Ibagué,” concluded the director of the Tolima Section of the Prosecutor's Office.
In the newspaper El Heraldo de Barranquilla they reported that the alleged sexual predator is 49 years old and was born in the municipality of Ciénaga (Magdalena).
