Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most beloved American actors, since he began his acting career at a very young age and with great roles he has managed to gain great recognition over the years. However, something that has made him the target of multiple criticism or ridicule was the difficulties he went through to win a statuette at the Oscars.
And the thing is that, the actor participated in renowned films such as Titanic, which during the 70th Ceremony this ceremony won 11 statues, but none of them were for the actor who played the memorable Jack Dawson. That is why, below, we will tell you about the journey that DiCaprio had to become an Oscar winner and break the complicated streak.
The first Oscar nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio came after 1993, when the film Who does Gilbert Grape love? and would be in the category “Best Supporting Actor”.

The film is about a young man who works in a supermarket and his life revolves around caring for his brother with intellectual disabilities and his overweight mother. Subsequently, Becky arrives at the plot, a special and modern woman who will completely change the fate of Gilbert Grape.
But, despite the scoop, during the 1994 edition of the Oscars, DiCaprio did not win and instead it was Tommy Lee Jones, for his role in The Fugitive, who took the statuette.
After several years and without being nominated on Titanic, in 2005 Leonardo reappeared on the list and placed himself as one of the favorites for his role in El Aviador. There he was in the “Best Actor” category, but Jamie Foxx won for his role in Ray.
Leonardo returned to “Best Actor” for his role in the film Blood Diamond in 2006, but was defeated by Forest Whitaker, who performed a great performance in The Last King of Scotland.
Without giving up, the renowned actor reappeared in the public eye in 2013, however, with his role as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio was defeated once again and on that occasion by Matthew McConaughey, who played in Dallas Buyers Club.
By 2016, not only did DiCaprio yearn for one of these awards, but the public implored that they give it to him and it was with his starring role in The Revenant that he finally got the statuette as “Best Actor”.
Thus, with an emotional smile, the actor went up to the stage to thank for the award and sent a strong message:
“Climate change is real, it's happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work together and stop delaying it. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for those who pollute the most and big corporations, but for humanity, for the world's indigenous communities, for the billions of less privileged people who will be most affected by this. For the children of our children, and for those whose voices have been drowned out by greedy policies. Thank you all for this wonderful award, but let's not forget this planet, I won't forget tonight,” he said.

In 2020, the artist was once again nominated for his performance in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood but Joaquin Phoenix won the award for the film Joker (2019).
For this 94th edition of the Oscars, the film Don't Look up starring DiCaprio won the following nominations: best film, best principal screenplay, best editing and best soundtrack.
