Oscar 2022: All films with Batman's “Joker” have won at least one Oscar

The 94th edition of the Oscars is just a few days away and with it the euphoria for the most important award in the seventh art in the world has generated great interest. On this occasion, the celebration that adorns the best of international cinema had the opportunity to coincide with one of the most anticipated premieres in 2022, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson.

The iconic film, which was directed by Matt Reeves, is shaping up to be a natural candidate next year in the 95th edition of the T he Academy Awards. However, it is essential to remember that on March 25, the first images of Barry Keoghan's Joker were leaked to the press, which will be presented at the sequel to The Batman .

This is extremely important, since the Batman antagonist is one of the most important characters in the history of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and each of the actors who gave life to the Joker has achieved at least one golden statuette; such are the cases of: Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto, Jack Nicholson and the deceased, Heath Ledger.

It was at the Oscars 2020 that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker character became the fourth actor to win an Academy Award for having given life to Batman's archenemy. On that occasion, the Puerto Rican born artist managed to consecrate his great performance with the golden statuette for “Best Actor”.

But that was not the only award that the film directed by Todd Phillips won in the 92nd edition of The Academy, and that is because Warner Media added to the showcases the Oscar for “Best Original Soundtrack” for the film starring Phoenix.

Prior to Joaquin Phoenix's version of the Joker, the character played by Jared Leto took place in The Suicide Squad (2016). However, although this version of Batman's opponent did not like much among DC fans, David Ayer's film won an Oscar for “Best Makeup” in 2017.

Even later, in 2009, and setting a precedent for his performance, came Heath Ledger's ibJoker in Batman, The Dark Knight. However, his recognition has been one of the most impactful and emotional in the history of the Academy Awards, as he became the second actor to win a posthumous Oscar.

The actor died months before the Oscar gala due to an accidental drug overdose, at the age of 28. It was the second time that Ledger competed for this distinction when in 2005 he won the Hollywood Academy Award for Best Actor for his starring role in the film Secret in the Mountain.

As her parents approached the main stage that had been set up at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, television cameras approached faces such as that of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Sean Penn and Jennifer Aniston, who echoed the sentiment left by the unforgettable Joker's departure and which was converted to immortality.

His parents, Sally Ledger Bell and Kim Ledger, as well as his sister Kate, were in charge of collecting the important medal, who thanked Christopher Nolan, Warner Brothers and the Academy.

It took almost 20 years to see the Joker again at the Oscar gala, before they saw the Batman antagonist, played by Heath Ledger. The first time a film with the Joker won an Oscar occurred in 1990, when Tim Burton's Batman (1989), starring Jack Nicholson himself as the diabolical villain, won the Oscar for “Best Art Direction”.

This film was not only the one that emphasized the Marvel and DC hero films to compete against the best in cinema, but it is also considered a cult work and one of those responsible for elevating the superhero genre and turning it into something serious.
