María Martínez, head of immunizations at the Ministry of Health, commented that they seek to continue motivating the population to complete their vaccine schedule. For this reason, an intensive vaccination will be carried out this weekend, placing the vaccination for 12 and up to 36 hours in some special points.

“Ask the population to come and receive their vaccines. Today, the State has already made a mandatory provision that starting in April all those over 18 years old must have their complete vaccination schedule with all three doses,” said Martínez.

He said that it has been seen that in some places the population does not go to get vaccinated. And in front of that, Minsa set up some tactics with health personnel and vaccination brigades that go to focused points, house by house. This strategy is now going to intensify much more this weekend, as the risk of the virus in the country remains imminent.

“We are not following a single strategy, there are also vaccination sweeps, they move to markets, or to areas where they are difficult to access where they cannot use the vaccine. This is called strategy and mixed tactics,” he said.

In addition to the fact that all three doses will be mandatory for people from 18 years of age, another provision is that it is not called a booster dose but is a mandatory third dose that the population must have.

Along these lines, he announced that it has been arranged that starting tomorrow Saturday boys from 12 to 17 years old will receive their third dose. This will apply to those who have taken the second dose five months ago. For example, those who were vaccinated in October, can already apply the third dose. Martinez called on parents to come.

FOURTH DOSE

Regarding the application of the fourth dose that is already being carried out in some countries, the chief immunization officer of Minsa said that in our country, although it currently has a minimum rate of contagion, a new variant could affect us. “A group of immunization experts has been evaluating with the evidence. Next week we will be giving some news about it,” he said.

In turn, he indicated that there are many children aged 5 to 11 who have their second dose pending, so he called on parents to allow their children to be vaccinated.

He also made it clear that Minsa will not apply any expired vaccines, since everything is applied according to expiration. “Peruvians must feel reassured that in no way is that going to be allowed,” he said.
