A reward of 2 billion pesos, an orange circular to Interpol and the creation of an elite special group of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, show that the authorities are in a thorough search for Juan Larinson Castro Estupiñán, better known by the alias Matamba. The escape of one of the Gulf Clan leaders in recent days has generated enormous controversy because it would have been developed through the help of some Inpec guards.

“The National Police has issued an orange circular against Juan Larinson Castro Estupiñán, better known as Matamba, for escaping prisoners, this orange circular aims to locate and capture this person anywhere in the world. We ask the central units of Interpol, especially in countries close to Colombia, that if they locate him, he be captured for extradition to our country,” General Vargas Valencia said a few days ago.

Now, and in accordance with what was established prior to his escape, on April 8, the stage is scheduled to define a possible pre-agreement between Matamba and the Attorney General's Office. This appointment, which had originally been scheduled for March 3, could not be held because Castro Estupiñán did not have a defender.

Mauricio Sánchez Sánchez was the legal representative of alias Matamba; however, he was captured on February 3 for allegedly being part of the criminal organization. It has a measure of custodial assurance, so it cannot act as a defense of the drug trafficker and head of the criminal gang 'Cordillera Sur'.

Later Angelica Martinez, a lawyer from the public defender's office, was assigned to represent Matamb a, however, she stated that she did not receive recognition for her representation, so she made the decision to renounce the offender's defense. It should be noted that Castro Estupiñán had already expressed his decision to collaborate in the investigations carried out by the professionals, however, all this remained in words since he escaped from La Picota prison last Friday, March 18.

Milton Jiménez, one of the agents of INPEC indicated to participate in these events, would have been responsible for coordinating everything to facilitate Matamba's departure from La Picota. The authorities seek to clarify the facts in which the criminal reportedly left the prison premises in a vehicle with tinted windows from Inpec.

In addition to all this, the United States apparently requested the extradition of the guards who had released Juan Larinson Castro Estupiñán. Justice Minister Wilson Ruiz claimed that Milton Jimenez is deprived of liberty, however, he asked a judge to send him to prison. They are awaiting authorization to transfer him to La Picaleña in the city of Ibague.

It was also confirmed that new security and control measures have been imposed inside La Picota prison. Permanent military accompaniment was also established, as was the entry of parcels prohibited and vehicles must be parked outside the prison.
