This Thursday, March 24, the Green Alliance party decided to release its members so that they can support the alternative candidate of their choice in the first presidential round. This determination came after a meeting of more than four hours, where the current congressmen and the elected members of that collective, agreed that only support for a candidate will be defined in a hypothetical second round and will be done by the one that “brings together the alternative sectors”.
The representative to the House, Mauricio Toro, who did not win a seat for the period 202-2026, stated after the meeting that, “after a very interesting meeting between current congressmen, elected and managers of the Green Party, we continue with the current resolution that was passed last year, to give freedom for its members to support any candidacy and it will be the one who will pass the second round of this sector, who is supported by the Green Party,” he said.
For her part, Representative Katherine Miranda added that freedom will actually be to vote for three candidates: Sergio Fajardo, from the Esperanza Center Coalition; Gustavo Petro, from the Historical Pact, or former mayor of Bucaramanga Rodolfo Hernández. “Freedom was ratified; it is simply closed to these three candidates for the first round,” he said.

On the other hand, the congressman explained that in the event of a possible second round between two of the three candidates who can support, a new bench meeting should be called and the political scenario studied there. Of course, Miranda emphasized that the discussion of this day took place without any problems.
Recently, the co-president of the Green Alliance, Carlos Ramón González, spoke with Semana Magazine and assured that the majority of the community would be inclined to support Gustavo Petro. “I am very happy because we are in the best position to move forward in building what we have termed the accession to the presidency or to win it from the alternative sectors. To win and govern Colombia, it must go beyond the Historical Pact, with the greens, liberal sectors, other parties, with social and economic sectors,” the political leader told the magazine.
For his part, Carlos Amaya, former pre-candidate of the Centro Esperanza Coalition, who was the big surprise in the consultation due to his big vote and was one of those chosen to be the vice-presidential formula of Fajardo. When he was not appointed, he began the campaign in favor of his coalition partner and in pursuit of other options. However, after meetings and assignment of roles, the former governor of Boyacá was linked as the youth and rural sector coordinator of the Fajardo campaign.

For her part, re-elected Senator Angelica Lozano stated that the party also took stock of the election results, highlighting growth in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Regarding the freedom of the militants for the first round, Lozano said that an alliance is sought between candidates Sergio Fajardo and Rodolfo Hernández. “We are inviting Sergio Fajardo to drink red with Rodolfo Hernández,” he said.
In this way, within the Green Party, most of its members would support the candidacy of Gustavo Petro, while Sergio Fajardo has the support of Antanas Mockus and the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López. Meanwhile, Rodolfo Hernández would receive support from Santander's green sector.
