Gustavo Petro, candidate for the presidency for the Historical Pact, has insisted for some time that he was part of the Constituent that created the 1991 Constitution, the last mention was made during the officialization of Francia Márquez as his vice-presidential formula.
“With the Liberal Party, at the time, we made the Constitution of 91,” said Gustavo Petro, but this was not the only time, he also did it when a few hooded men entered a cathedral in Bogotá saying that they gave freedom of worship.
One of the most popular mentions about the National Constituent Assembly that Petro makes is in his book 'One life, many vidas' where he says he was part of the group of people who
Despite the assertions of Gustavo Petro, one of his former M-19 colleagues, Antonio Navarro Wolff — who together with Horacio Serpa and Álvaro Gómez were the three presidents of the Constituent — denied that he was part of the discussions to change the constitution, according to RCN Radio.
“Gustavo was not a member of the Constituent Assembly. He may have attended sessions, but not as a member of that constituent body,” the political leader, who worked with Petro in the first months of his mayor's office, told El Colombiano. It should be noted that Navarro Wolff is the only president of the Constituent who is still alive, after the assassination of Álvaro Gómez in 1995 and the death of Horacio Serpa in 2020.
On March 20, the National Consulting Center and Semana Magazine presented the results of their most recent survey, which sought to show how the electoral landscape changed after the elections.
It is important to mention that for this survey, a sample of 2,143 citizens belonging to six regions of the country was used: Antioquia, Bogotá, Caribbean, Central, Pacific and Eastern. In addition, the data were collected in a mixed way, that is, by telephone calls and in person. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the study has a margin of error of 2.1%.
According to the results, Gustavo Petro, candidate for Pact Histórico, continues to lead voting intentionality in the country with 32% in his favor, followed by Federico Gutiérrez who accumulates 23%. In this case, it should be noted that the contender for Team Colombia increased his leadership considerably after the results of the consultations were announced and he poses himself as the possible biggest opponent on the left in the second round.
For third place, a tie was found between Sergio Fajardo and Rodolfo Hernández with an intention of 10%; and later Ingrid Betancourt was positioned with 3% and Enrique Gómez with 1%.
The regional vision shows that in the Colombian capital, Gustavo Petro accumulates 40% of voting intention, then Federico Gutiérrez arrives with 23%, and Fajardo appears with just 11%, a surprising result because in 2018 the former governor of Medellín was the most favored in Bogotá.
Now in the Antioquia region and the Coffee Region, respecting their historical preferences, the leader of the survey is the representative of Equipo for Colombia and who has received approaches to uribism with 36%, followed by Petro with 20% and Fajardo with 12%.
In the center of the country, Gustavo Petro and Gutiérrez tied with 21%; the former mayor of Bucaramanga ranks third with 14%; and Fajardo scores 12%. Something different in the Pacific, where the former mayor of Bogotá and senator of Colombia Humana accumulated 46%, followed by 'Fico' (14%) and Fajardo (8%).
It seems that the panorama that has been experienced this week due to the inconsistencies in the votes, debates and accusations between left and right, continues to benefit Gustavo Petro and Pact Histórico, which has the majorities in the senate; and Federico Gutiérrez, who has received support from different traditional sectors.
