The footage of the young woman after falling is recorded on video, while the security members of the mall try to disperse the crowd, in order for the emergency forces to attend to the woman.

According to the authorities, the events that happened at 10:30 in the morning caused severe head trauma along with an open fracture of the lower limb, minutes later he died due to the seriousness of the injuries.

After the removal of the body, the authorities launched an investigation to clarify the facts and determine exactly how the girl fell. According to witnesses, the young woman launched herself of her own free will.

Several months ago there was no event like this in the city, even, in the same shopping center there have already been cases of suicides under the same modality, the most recent one on March 3, 2018.

In the city, suicide rates have been decreasing since 2019, a year that exceeded the figures. According to the Ministry of Health of Bogotá, there are more cases reported in men than women, statistics show that, for every 3 male cases, there is one female.

In 2021, 283 cases of death by suicide were recorded, which are concentrated in the towns of Engativá with 12.0%, followed by the localities of Bosa and Kennedy, each representing 11.0%.

Although figures in Bogotá are decreasing, in contrast, last year Colombia reached its peak. According to Legal Medicine, 2,350 cases were recorded, this being the highest number in at least the last 10 years.

By gender, the victims were 1,903 men and 447 women, including 255 minors. This cause of death had affected 335 people between 20 and 24 years old, this being the age range in which the most cases occurred.

According to the National Mental Health Survey, attempted suicide and suicide in minors are the most serious consequence of depression. Other triggers can be quarrels with parents, suicide of third parties, discrimination based on gender identity, among others. As for adults, among the most common factors are: being older than 45, impulsivity, widowhood, living alone, being unemployed, retired, family history of suicide and having firearms at home.

Despite the fact that suicide rates were reduced in the country in 2020 (2,142 between January and November), the National Institute of Health hypotheses suggest that this was achieved due to less access to lethal means, more social control, greater access to other “mechanisms of emotional regulation” such as psychoactive substances or because emergency services have reported less frequently.

The Ministry of Health has emphasized the seriousness of these events and the need to prevent them. With a National Council for Economic and Social Policy (Conpes) for Mental Health, the investment of 1.1 billion pesos was approved, which will be distributed until 2023. The national government intends to improve the implementation of mental health policy, as there are problems of articulation at the national and territorial levels, especially in the area of suicide.
