On the last two dates of the South American Qualifiers to Qatar 2022, the Colombian national team will host Bolivia in Barranquilla this Thursday, March 24, at 6:30pm local time, and will close with Venezuela in San Cristobal on the 30th of the same month, at 7:30pm, Colombian time.
This Wednesday, Reinaldo Rueda, technical director of the national team, gave a press conference prior to the duel against César Farías's team in which he spoke about the possibility that Juan Fernando Quintero and James Rodríguez could play again together, the role of Luis Díaz and, in addition, he asked the fans and the press.
“We all know the responsibility to ourselves and the country. For the fans, the fans and the people. Not only in Colombia, but by nationals abroad and it's not easy”, were Reinaldo Rueda's first words.
On Rueda's request to the local press, he commented that: “I think that is a job of you media. Of those who manage and lead opinion and social work, to help us, play it and unite us beyond the mistakes we have made. That is where nationalism and solidarity must be shown. Barranquilla has been the ideal home of the national team and now more than ever these guys need support, support and solidarity. May fortune accompany us because we have always had God's blessing to be able to classify ourselves.”
He added that: “Goals are loves and although the moment is not the best for many, the ideal thing is for Colombia to present this team in the world cup and that is the challenge from day one. To dream, to ambition and to play for that and we are in that purpose. We won't give up until the last second. There are very strong teams that have qualified like this with playoffs. Look at the case of Italy and Portugal with Cristiano with difficulties and ours with references from previous world championships and this big bump what is important is conviction and firmness and until the last second let's put our chest on the breeze”.
Now, about the role played by Luis Díaz in the national team, the vallecaucano coach helped to release the pressure a little: Yesterday I met with him. Let him assume that it is part of the selection, but it is not the solution, he should not carry that backpack, he is a reference. He is going through a great time, his time in Porto and Selección has allowed him to get to where he is. Responsibility must be shared, we are all, it is a collective”.
And finally, about the possibility that the two left-handers, James and Quintero, can be back together on the court wearing the 'tricolor' shirt, Rueda explained that it is a possibility, but that he does not guarantee to put them to play at the same time, since they have not played together for a long time, although he highlighted the good performance of the Antioquian footballer in River Plate.
