In a matter of hours, the Colombian National Team will face the Bolivian National Team on the penultimate date of the qualifying rounds. A key match to keep alive the excitement of qualifying for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, however, the latest results of the national team sow enormous concern among fans, who, in the match against Peru, showed their disagreement with the result by insulting and assaulting the players.
Regarding the match to be played in Barranquilla, coach Rueda stated that, “we are aware that in the instances where we are in these South American qualifiers they have always given us that teaching that until the last minute many positions are not resolved and the important thing is conviction and faith, knowing that perhaps we let one slip opportunity, but we have a chance to fight, we have two games with two rivals of great respect and very difficult, but we have to play the matches. The usual desire is to want to be in the World Cup and that will take precedence here, apart from what has been worked on and everything that we have set ourselves as a challenge in these two games.”
However, the results do not accompany the team as they still achieved one of the worst streaks in the Playoffs. The Colombian National Team does not win or score goals seven games ago, the last time they won was on September 9, 2021 when they beat Chile 3-1, since then 644 minutes have passed without Rueda's team making a score in rival goal.
Despite this, Rueda invited the fans of the Colombian National Team to be, “more united than ever despite all the mistakes we have made, that is where true nationalism, solidarity, must be demonstrated. Barranquilla is the ideal home of the National Team. Now more than ever, these guys need that support and that accompaniment. May fortune accompany us because we have always had God's blessing because despite everything the difficulties and all the irregularity has allowed us to continue with that thread of being able to classify”.
