The South American Qualifiers enter a final stretch similar to what is happening with most World Cup qualifiers around the globe. The 17th matchday, the runner-up of the contest, could leave two other direct qualifiers after the tickets that Brazil and Argentina took several dates ago.
Currently, Ecuador (25 points) and Uruguay (22) are in the direct qualifying zone, but Peru (21), Chile (19), Colombia (17) and Bolivia (15) still maintain their mathematical chances, considering that Ricardo Gareca's players are currently in the playoff zone.
• What Ecuador needs: The victory against Paraguay will allow it to secure passage to the World Cup. Although a draw could also give them the classification if they equal Uruguay-Peru.
• What does Uruguay need: if it beats Peru and Chile does not go beyond the draw with Brazil, it will get the ticket to the World Cup. It could also secure at least the repechage if it draws: Chile must fall to Brazil and Colombia does not beat Bolivia.
