The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) reported that, following the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), the benefits of the Full-Time Schools program will be maintained in the La Escuela es Nuestra (LEEN) program.
This information was provided by means of an information card, in which they indicated that food support and extended hours will be delivered directly to mothers, fathers, students and students of basic education centers to avoid the participation of intermediaries and/or irregular practices.
The document specified that Delfina Gómez, head of the SEP, remains broadly willing to meet with the legislators of the Chamber of Deputies. In addition, the educational official reaffirms its commitment to the members of San Lazaro and the minors of public schools in the country.
However, it is understood that Delfina Gómez did not attend her appearance on Wednesday, March 23, in San Lázaro, after postponing it on the 22nd of that month. Luis Espinosa Cházaro, coordinator of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) bench, mentioned that there is no fixed date for the education official to meet with the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo).
“We have announced that we will request the restitution of the Full-Time Schools, but I find out from the technical secretary of Jucopo that he has not given a date, that he will not go tomorrow, and that he has asked this week for a date to be set,” said Espinosa Cházaro.
It is worth mentioning that during his morning conference on March 7, López Obrador had already talked about maintaining the Full-Time Schools program by delivering benefits directly to parents or those responsible for children enrolled in a public educational institution.
“The truth is that we chose to give the resources directly to the societies of mothers and fathers for everything that has to do with education in the classroom (...) for whatever they consider, we have already had about sixty thousand schools where we delivered the budget directly,” commented the Chief Executive.
On that occasion, the Tabasqueño said that his administration did not want “all the bureaucratic intermediation” to get resources applied in schools. He therefore commented that it was decided to give direct support to the society of fathers and mothers.
“I had to see how they use budgets and it yields to them and they manage it honestly because it is the school where their children study, so that was what was decided, not to pass the money through the federal or state government, because it does not arrive or it is not fulfilled,” said the Mexican president.
For her part, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared that the program will be maintained in the country's capital.
Prior to AMLO's statements, on March 4, Sehinbaum stated that his operation will be carried out with his own resources and will work together with the SEP authorities.
He also indicated that the characteristics of how it will be carried out, in academic terms, will depend on the Secretariat; in the case of food, resources will be given directly to parents to take care of it, as is done with the hot food program.
