The criminal proceedings initiated by the former manager of Public Companies of Medellín (EPM), Álvaro Guillermo Rendón, for alleged insult against the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero Calle, is not progressing but could escalate to possible additional crimes. Now, the Ninth Delegate Prosecutor's Office to the Supreme Court of Justice has certified copies for alleged abuse of authority and trading in influence.

The new request for investigation was made this Wednesday, March 23, after Quintero and his private secretary, María Camila Villamizar, again missed the conciliation hearing to which they were summoned.

This is what Julián Quintana, Rendón's lawyer, said about this new copy compulsion through his Twitter account:

The lawyer stated in the new lawsuit that Quintero, represented by Villamizar, allegedly harassed Mr. Rendón for the appointment of individuals within EPM and its subsidiaries to specific positions and at the discretion of the mayor.

Faced with Rendón's refusal, Quintero would have pushed the manager's resignation, a request that he did not see viable. So, in order to definitively withdraw it, the former manager was subject to the declaration of insubsistence that finally removed him from office in February 2021.

The complaint document reads:

According to what Quintana told RCN Radio, the new complaint is supported by audios and WhatsApp conversations in which Quintero, Villamizar, members of the EPM board of directors and the former legal director of public companies participated.

The next step with this new complaint is for you to be assigned a prosecutor and have them decide how to start investigating.

Mayor Quintero responded in his profile on the social network; he seems not very concerned about the new investigation against him. Judging by the high caliber of his message, he will also be the great one absent from the next conciliation hearing in Rendón, scheduled for April 18.

A year ago it became known that Rendón had criminally denounced Quintero for slander. The former official requested that the local president retract or rectify the information he provided publicly.

Rendón asked the attorney general of the nation to initiate the “criminal investigation” to show that Mayor Quintero systematically affected his honor and good name with the statements he has given in the media.

In February 2021, Daniel Quintero commented that “Álvaro Rendón made a mistake that could cost the lawsuit to Hidroituango's contractors and that this, added to the evaluation of their performance, made the company's Vice Presidents make that decision, because in their administration those who make such a mistake must take a step aside.”

Rendón assures that these accusations have been repetitive, despite the fact that he himself asked him to desist from making those comments. Among the requests of this lawsuit, it is sought that the former manager return to the position he had to leave.
