José Ramón López Beltrán, son of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), spoke out against actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez and musician and composer Rubén Albarrán, both of whom are Mexican nationals.

After the two public figures expressed their disagreement with the Maya Train project, López Beltrán invited them to learn more about the situation of the 4T megaproject and to stop listening to their pretentious friends.

The president's son said: “His best moments were in the nineties. From @EugenioDerbez it was #eloygameno and Rubén Albarrán was @cafetacvba, #Re and #Avalanchadeexitos. I hope they are well informed about @TrenMayaMX and stop listening to their fatuous and superfluous bad friendships.”

The statements were made on March 23, 2022 through his Twitter account. At the moment, none of the artists have responded to the comment, however, at the president's morning conference all the participants of the #SélvameDelTren campaign were singled out of “pseudo-environmentalists” and “fifis”. Similarly, the president said that the participants would have been hired by conservatives to harm the work.

“There have always been the fifis, there have always been the elites, the oligarchy, conservative thought (...) Now it's the Mayan Train, they convince or hire artists, pseudo-environmentalists, supposedly concerned about the defense of the environment and start a campaign against the Maya Train,” Andrés Manuel said in the morning.

There were also humorous comments, such as the publication in which comedian Chumel Torres ironized the president's opinion of Albarrán, who is also the vocalist of the Mexican band Café Tacvba.

It should be noted that the campaign began to circulate on social networks on the occasion of World Water Day, as participants argued that the work of the Train would severely affect underground rivers, in addition to causing serious damage to the flora and fauna of the region. Among the personalities who joined the movement are: Natalia Lafourcade, Kate del Castillo, Barbara Morí, Saul Hernandez, Omar Chaparro, Ana Claudia Talancón, Aislinn Derbez, among others. Everyone expressed their disagreement with the construction of Section 5 South of the Maya Train.

However, several Internet users took the opportunity to take out the “rags in the sun” of the figures of the national artistic world who joined the campaign. Among the strongest criticisms was the alleged relationship that actress Kate del Castillo had with Joaquín Guzmán Loera, one of the most dangerous drug traffickers in the country. The artists were also singled out for not having raised their voices in other projects that have damaged various natural areas.

It was also pointed out that none of them were biologists or environmental engineers, but actors, singers, and actresses who seek certain interests. Similarly, there were users who applauded the actions of #SélvameDelTren, arguing that it is important for artists of that size to use their voices to “raise awareness” among people of the situation facing the jungle of southeastern Mexico.

Regarding this, AMLO stressed: “How many of these artists, pseudo-environmentalists, spoke out about the destruction that was going to take place in Lake Texcoco? , when? We are talking about the lake with the most history that is the origin of Mexico-Tenochtitlan... never, nothing. When did they say something during the neoliberal period that governments gave 60 percent of the territory for mining? were 120 million hectares”.
