INVÍAS awarded the construction of three viaducts on the Ciénaga - Barranquilla highway

The works will have an investment of $700 billion

INVÍAS announced that the Ciénaga del Magdalena Viaduct Consortium was awarded the tender to build three viaducts on the road from Ciénaga to Barranquilla, a project that will have an investment of 700 billion pesos.

This work seeks to improve traffic for transporters moving between the north and the center of the country, and, according to Juan Esteban Gil, director of the National Highways Institute (INVÍAS), it will be a “definitive solution to the mobility problems generated by coastal erosion”.

Regarding the work, Ángela María Orozco, Minister of Transport, pondered that “the award of this new public work shows that the transport sector continues to fulfill its commitment to developing roads with high rates of operation and service”.

For his part, the director of INVÍAS, Juan Esteban Gil Chavarría, said that “the project will benefit more than 970,000 inhabitants of the region and will generate better mobility between major Caribbean cities such as Santa Marta, Barranquilla and Cartagena.”

The public bidding process began in December 2021 with six consortia, made up of 16 national and foreign companies, which submitted to the process, of which the Ciénaga del Magdalena Viaduct Consortium, made up of Mincivil SA and SP Ingenieros SA, was awarded the tender.

“These structures offer a sustainable technical solution and a safe and comprehensive mobility to all those who move between the departmental capitals of Magdalena and Atlántico,” said the Minister of Transport when the tender was opened.

It is worth remembering that the construction contract is for $630 billion and $70 billion that INVÍAS will invest for the auditing, thus adding up to 700 billion pesos.

Regarding this, the director of INVÍAS added that with this investment they will build three viaducts at kilometer 19, kilometer 28 and kilometer 59, which add up to more than 10 kilometers in length and will be connected to the Ciénaga Variante project, in which INVÍAS is investing $172 billion in the construction of 4 kilometers new double carriageway and a bridge of 508 meters in length.

“During the construction of approximately 10 kilometers long that these infrastructures add up, we will generate 3,850 new jobs, which promotes development and well-being in this area of the Caribbean. This is how this great investment is shaped and the dream of having the entire Caribbean marginal on a double road” added the director of INVÍAS.

These viaducts are part of the three phases of intervention of this corridor. Last year the entity completed the first stage to ensure that the stretch between kilometers 18 and 20 will no longer be susceptible to coastal erosion. Subsequently, the entity began the second phase, in which $14 billion has been invested to build a multi-layer rockery and reinforce critical points.

Mincivil S.A., with a 75% stake, and SP Ingenieros S.A. with 25%, are the companies that make up the Viaducto Ciénaga Magdalena Consortium, which, as an experience, presented the road works between Puerto Valdivia and the dam of the Hidroituango project, as well as the construction of road infrastructure and esplanation for camps and substations of the hydroelectric project.

The legal representative of the consortium is Alexandra Greidinger, and these companies also led the construction of the Aburrá - Cauca River - San Cristóbal Tunnel project and their respective accesses.
