The Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced this Wednesday, March 23, that agents of the agency located and secured an explosive device inside the Municipal Palace of San Juan Nuevo Parangaricutiro, Michoacán; a fact which the mayor of the entity denied that it had occurred.

In a statement, the FGR reported that it opened an investigation folder for crimes against the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives, since a bomb was found inside the mayor's office of the Michoacán municipality.

At the site they secured a square-shaped object sealed with insulation tape, with a piece of approximately 10 centimeters of detonating cord with the characteristics of being an improvised explosive device, located inside offices in a piece of furniture,” the agency reported Wednesday morning.

On the afternoon of the same day, the mayor of Nuevo Parangaricutiro, Dr. Jesús Antonio Espinoza, assured that at no time was there an explosive device in the vicinity of the town hall, since the staff of the Municipal Palace heard about what was communicated by the prosecutor's office through social networks.

“I don't have any communication, we only saw that rumor on social networks... everything is quiet in the entity,” said the mayor in an interview with Azucena Uresti and continued, “The news that is happening is false. We are calm, today it was worked with peace of mind.”

The mayor warned that the FGR could have issued the communiqué by mistake and with inaccurate dates, since a few days ago there was an armed incursion in the same place by members of organized crime.

Agents of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) found explosive material wrapped in metallic material on March 16 in a boardroom of the government building of San Juan Nuevo, located on 16 de septiembre street; a device that shares characteristics with that described by the FGR in a later statement.

In this same municipality, on March 10, an armed command of United Cartels entered, leaving at least five dead. The authorities' first line of investigation is that the criminal gang, led by a subject identified as El Boa, tried to take over the area operated by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and regain its control.

On Thursday morning, the gunners arrived in the town of Purépecha after 08:00 hours, without giving notice to the groups that control that point. They showed up early, threatened surveillance and told them they were in charge. The answer was not long in coming. Just a few minutes later, members of the community round, allegedly linked to the CJNG, pursued and secured them. The community group succeeded in killing five suspected criminals.

In schools, several students threw themselves on the floor to protect themselves. Others were evacuated from public areas and sheltered without any explanation of what was happening. The curious people recorded videos and shared them on social networks, in a desperate search to be helped by the authorities. The publications read that the Boa came to the municipal presidency without being intimidated by the agents.

Hours after what happened, the CJNG communicated through a video that they were carrying out an armed incursion into the entity to put an end to the extortionists and kidnappers present in the municipality.
