Drug-related coup in Sonora: Sedena secured vehicles, long guns and tactical equipment after several operations

Sonoran authorities reported on the securing of firearms, explosives, useful cartridges and vehicles through various operations in the state, which resulted in the arrest of four people.

Through its social networks, the Ministry of Public Security of Sonora (SSP) announced that this Wednesday, March 23, it carried out a joint operation with the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) on the Tubutama-Magdalena highway, where long weapons, ammunition and tactical equipment were secured, in addition to narcotic drugs.

“In the joint operation of SEDENA and the State Police on the Tubutama - Magdalena highway today a vehicle and long guns were secured. Almost simultaneously in the vicinity of Magdalena, weapons, cartridges, ammunition, narcotic tactical vests and cash were secured. The Security Board coordinates the actions that contribute to the security of our state every day,” reported the agency.

In the same way, both security corporations detained four people in the community of Pitiquito, arrests that were carried out in collaboration with municipal police.

“In the operations being carried out in the area of Pitiquito, SEDENA, the State Police and the State Force of the three orders of government, this afternoon a group of four people were arrested and firearms, explosive devices, cartridges and armored vehicles were seized,” the SSP announced.

On March 10, two drivers were linked to trial in Sonora for crimes against health, this is their type of drug trafficking. Both were detained aboard a passenger bus on the Sonoyta-San Luis Rio Colorado highway. They had 29 wrappers containing 85,629 tablets of fentanyl.

The drivers, identified as Ángel “D” and José “C”, were arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and presented to a supervising judge of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in the entity, who described the arrests as legal and linked the prosecution to the accused, in addition to the fact that it imposed informal pre - trial detention as a precautionary measure on them.

These arrests were linked to what happened a day earlier, as elements of the National Guard (GN) and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) arrested Brando Galindo Osornio at the “Sentinel” military checkpoint when he was driving a vehicle with 33 kilos, 120 grams of fentanyl powder, 335,000 tablets of it. substance and three kilos 200 grams of heroin.

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) requested a hearing before the supervising judge, who described the arrest and detention Galindo Osornio as legal and ordered him to link him to the trial for the aforementioned crime.

Also, on March 7, more than two tons of drugs were seized in Sonora, as a result of a ground operation carried out by the Mexican Army. Thanks to intelligence work, it became known that a criminal organization in Sonora would carry out a major drug transfer, from Puerto Lobos to Puerto Peñasco.

Through a press release, the Ministry of National Defense and National Guard announced that on March 5 of this year, Mexican Army troops secured 1,893.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, 86 kilograms of cocaine, 57 kilograms of fentanyl pills, 2 kilograms of opium gum and 1 kilogram of marijuana. This was made available to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), which will integrate this information into the corresponding investigation folder.
