President Andrés Manuel López Obrador anticipated the reports of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), noting that they unanimously decided to increase the interest rate by 50 basis points, which would put it at 6.5%. This is what he said at his morning conference this Thursday, March 24.

Although this decision will be announced by the Banco de México this Thursday at 1:00 p.m., the federal president respected the decision that was made on Wednesday, March 23, he said. He added that, when he became president of the Republic, the interest rate was 8% and caused it to fall to 4%.
