A penny coin with alleged minting error is quoted at more than 40 thousand pesos online

Of cents, pesos, or even with an alleged minting error, countless coins are offered by a website at high prices. This time we will present the example of a piece that has an imperfection.

According to the user who boasts the piece by a trading platform, the coin is observed double, that is, on top, which caused a person to want to sell it for more than 40 thousand pesos on the web.

Although coins or banknotes can be marketed at the desired price, the ideal is to visit an expert in the field to learn about the elements they should contain and be able to increase its value, since most of the time unreal costs are presumed.

What is the currency?

The currency we refer to has a face value of 10 cents. It was put into circulation as of August 6, 2009. According to the Banco de México (Banxico) it is part of the D family, so it is currently used.

Its shape is circular, has a diameter of 14 millimeters, edge with perimeter groove and a weight of 1,755 grams.

In addition, the tiny coin has a composition of stainless steel alloy, and was minted with the following elements: between 16% and 18% chromium; 75% nickel; 12% carbon; 1% silicon; 1% manganese; 3% sulfur; 4% phosphorus and the remainder iron.

On its obverse was depicted the typical National Shield of the eagle devouring a snake in sculptural relief, as well as the legend “United Mexican States” forming the upper semicircle.

For its reverse, the number “10″ was seen in the central part of the copy, as the main motif and face value, on its right the pennies symbol “¢”, in the field above the center of the year of issue. While in the lower field to the center, the Mint symbol “M°”, on the right parallel to the frame, a stylization of the Sacrificial Ring of the Stone of the Sun.

This piece is offered by the Mercado Libre site at a cost of up to 41 thousand pesos, according to one person who put it up for sale.

Ticket with alleged printing error

For their part, we must remember that in the world of numismatics, dozens of collectors find themselves every day searching for a new piece for their catalogue of “miniature works of art”. However, some people sell various tickets at stratospheric prices, such is the case of a copy that is offered online at a very high cost.

This is the award-winning paper money, due to its design and which was put into circulation last year. This time it is quoted at up to 200 thousand pesos, due to an alleged printing error.

The Banxico announced that the material with which this piece was created is polymer. In addition, it is part of the G family, that is, one of the most current ones issued by Banxico, so it is still valid for transactions in the country. Its face value is 20 pesos and it was awarded under the category of “Best Commemorative 2021″ at High Security Printing (HSP).
