On the morning of this Wednesday, March 23, presidential candidate Sergio Fajardo registered his candidacy with his teammate, former minister Luis Gilberto Murillo. Centro Esperanza's presidential formula went to the National Civil Status Registry where they ended the process that will allow them to compete in the first round of May 29.

The event was attended by the former candidates of that political alliance, Juan Manuel Galán, Jorge Robledo, Sergio Fajardo, Alejandro Gaviria and other figures close to the coalition such as Juan Fernando Cristo.

Both in his speech and on his social networks, Fajardo said that in his second attempt to become president he will bet on a change for Colombia.

“Today I re-register my candidacy, I return to the electoral contest as a representative of a force that represents real, courageous and coherent change that will restore our country's enthusiasm. We started this stage together!” , said the presidential candidate, before signing the documents submitted by the commissioners of the Registrar's Office. In his speech he mentioned several of the proposals that he will develop in his eventual government.

In addition, the former governor of Antioquia did not miss an opportunity to question his opponents at the polls. He reminded Federico Gutiérrez of his questionable support and to Gustavo Petro, he told him that he will win him in the elections.

“The political competition is clear: With the public support of Oscar Iván Zuluaga, Ivan Duque and Álvaro Uribe, it became clear what was an open secret for many, Fico is that of Uribe and that of Duque. However, the desire for change should not lead us to choose populism and anything goes. Petro must be beaten, but without re-electing Duque and Uribismo,” said the former mayor of Medellín.

For his part, the candidate for the Vice-Presidency, Luis Murillo, highlighted his teammate and gave details of how they will be seen campaigning for the presidency. “It is an honor to be the vice-presidential formula of Fajardo, a friend of many years ago, whom I respect and value as a great human being and leader who has given everything without compromising his principles or convictions,” he said, adding:

“We are convinced that we and most Colombians want Fajardo to be the next President, we will work towards this with the firm conviction that we need to add, build new leadership and stop putting individual interests first,” Murillo said.

Several of Fajardo and Murillo's political allies expressed their excitement when they saw them formalize the candidacy that will allow them to compete to succeed Iván Duque and Marta Lucía Ramírez as heads of the Colombian government.

Another one who also reacted was the former governor of Boyacá, Carlos Amaya, who was very smiling with Fajardo and highlighted the work he will play alongside the official candidate of Centro Esperanza. “Today I am here to tell the country that our proposal, that of daily struggles, that of the ruana, that of ordinary Colombians, that of the green bases, will be a fundamental part of the government of Sergio Fajardo. We're going to win!” , tribe.
