The Mayor's Office of Bogotá, through the Institute for Social Economy (Ipes), plans to reorganize the informal vendors of the Seventh race through an urban project that seeks to regulate informal sales, encourage entrepreneurship, and recover public space in that sector of the city.

As announced by the director of Ipes to the same media outlet, the project, which is expected to start operating in June 2022, seeks that nearly 623 informal vendors in the sector will be carnetized by the Bogotá Mayor's Office through QR codes.

Likewise, NotiCentro 1 CM& reported that, among the novelties that will be made in this commercial corridor, will be that each of the sellers will have a uniform with a distinctive color, depending on the economic activity they are engaged in, that is, orange for the sale of sweets, red for those who sell food, purple for those who sell food craftsmen, and a yellow uniform for artists.

With the reorganization, which will take place from Plaza de Bolivar to 26th Street, the District also reported that only those vendors who have been characterized will be able to work in the sector, from 6:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night.

Although it is expected that this Wednesday, March 23, the mayor's office and informal vendors will sign the agreement for this project, that last measure to be implemented with the initiative has generated concern in the informal sector as they are concerned that, if they are relocated, their sales will be affected.

Although more details about the project are unknown at the time, the District announced to the same media that this work, which will be carried out on time in the pedestrian zone of the Seventh race, is expected that, if successful, it can be implemented in other informal sales sectors of the city.

The Mayor's Office of Bogotá also recalled in recent days that, on the Seventh race, a project is also being carried out to create a green corridor, through which it is sought that “sustainable mobility, ecology and the history of the city” converge in one place.

In this regard, the District indicated that the green corridor will run along three sections distributed by the Seventh race. “The first goes from 26th Street to 32nd Street; the second, from 32A to 93A Street; and the third from 93A and 200th Street,” the mayor's office specified.

With the project, which will have an investment of $2.1 billion, and is expected to begin implementation in 2023, citizens' travel times along this corridor are expected to be reduced by 50%.
