
This Tuesday, March 22, the Ministry of Transport announced that during the last holiday holiday in San Jose there were 40 fewer accidents than recorded in 2021; the total was 384, which means a reduction of 9 percent. According to the portfolio, the sector had 110 prevention points that included controls, awareness campaigns and educational points.
“The balance of this festive bridge in San José is positive, it is with facts and equipment that we show the country important results with a 9% reduction in accidents during these days thanks to the good behavior of drivers and the permanent support from the various entities of the transport sector to provide security to the travellers”, said the Minister of Transport, Angela María Orozco.
According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Camilo Pabón Almanza, last weekend “3,674,088 vehicles were moved along the different roads of the country, an increase of 6% compared to last year. More than 1,100,000 passengers were transported at the land terminals and 394,796 did so through the air terminals. Of which 269,439 did so to and from domestic destinations and 125,357 to and from international destinations.”
Similarly, figures from the Directorate of Traffic and Transport of the National Police (Ditra), indicated that 4,719 complaints were imposed, and 6,886 drunken tests were carried out, of which 99 were positive.

“From the National Road Safety Agency we will continue to work to reduce road deaths to zero, unfortunately some of the travelers did not return to their homes, and that is why we call on all road actors, companies and in general all Colombians to take extreme precautions when transporting us on the roads of the country, to be aware that the lives of others depend on our behavior,” added Luis Lota, Director of the National Road Safety Agency.
For Major General Juan Alberto Libreros, during the festive weekend, “the behavior of Colombians on national roads was highlighted, in compliance with the biosecurity measures stipulated by the Ministry of Health and respect for traffic regulations.” Even so, he did not fail to call on drivers “not to violate traffic regulations, as the penalties for drivers increased by 24 per cent”.
During the day, the Superintendency of Transport intensified its operations in the company of the Directorate of Traffic and Transport of the National Police - DITRA, reaching around 46 operations in land terminals, tolls and main roads in the country. In these activities, compliance with regulations was verified for more than 1,130 vehicles.
“From the Land Terminals authorized by the Ministry of Transport, we accompanied the more than 1,100,000 passengers who traveled in 121,841 vehicles on national roads. We sensitized, guided and intermediated with 9,542 travelers who moved by air, land and water,” said the Superintendent of Transport, Wilmer Salazar.
It should be said that the National Road Safety Agency also activated 14 educational points during the holiday weekend located in Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolivar, Boyacá, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Quindio, Santander, Tolima and Valle del Cauca. “The strategy included activities of Motorcycle Skills and Bike Skills, seeking to generate training and prevention with awareness teams,” concluded the Transportation portfolio.
