One year after the death of the singer and icon of the vallenato Jorge Oñate, the eldest of the musician's 9 children, denounced according to media that his brothers, products of the last marriage of the 'Goldfinch of America', refuse to give the corresponding share of the inheritance to extramarital children.
“My father had a total of nine children, three of them, in his marriage to Nancy Zuleta: Jorge Luis, Delfina and Jorge Daniel, who live in La Paz (Cesar). We currently live eight, one of them died more than 20 years ago. Although he did not leave a will, we know that he reaped a fortune for his musical work,” explained Omar Oñate, the artist's eldest son.
Omar said that despite the fact that all their lives they got along well with the brothers, after the death of their father things changed and their relationship was completely fractured. Now after a while, there are even threats among the heirs of the icon.
“It was tried to reconcile, but it was not possible. The whole relationship deteriorated because in the end they told us: we will not give anything to you,” said the firstborn, who, as El Heraldo pointed out, explained that his father had left everything in order before he died to avoid such problems.
It is important to remember that the inheritance is valued at more than $20 billion, between real estate and family members and that most of them are in the custody of the family with which the artist lived, will ultimately be disputed in a legal form in a family court of the Valledupar Circuit.
Let's remember that 'The Goldfinch of America' died in February 2021, because although the renowned singer vallenato was able to overcome covid-19, other conditions such as pancreatitis that had to treat him in Medellin (Antioquia), where he was rushed to emergency this week, ended up triggering his death.
Oñate was going through a complicated health situation after he was infected in mid-January last year, as reported in the Barranquilla newspaper El Heraldo. In Valledupar Oñate he was referred to the Cardiovascular Institute of Cesar on January 18 due to respiratory conditions, and an infection in the kidneys, but 4 days later he ended up in the intensive care unit of that hospital, when he was diagnosed with covid-19, they also recalled in the Caribbean newspaper.
In that ICU he remained intubated and supervised by specialists, where he managed to overcome the disease caused by the new coronavirus, but after leaving that unit the artist suffered pancreatitis, so he was rushed to the Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital on February 23.
According to the newspaper El Tiempo de Bogotá, this weekend would be crucial for Oñate's recovery, after surgery for his pancreatitis, in order to drain fluids that would affect the teacher's health.
“His condition is still critical, he remains in a very reserved prognosis, he has been inflamed, he still needs a lot of medicine,” a close friend of the artist said in that newspaper.
In fact, 'The Goldfinch' required blood transfusions for his recovery, after all the medical interventions he had to undergo.
“At this point the process of his illness has become more complicated, he has alterations in his coagulation mechanism, which hinders some medical processes that he requires,” the artist's close friend said in El Tiempo.
For this reason, its general manager José Eduardo el 'mono' Romero asked the artist's followers for blood donations A+, who arrived massively at the Pablo Tobón hospital.
