On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 16, a group of suspected hit men belonging to some cartel with a presence in Tamaulipas pointed long guns at a drone belonging to the government of Texas, United States, which was under surveillance in the border of both countries.

The video recorded by the drone began to circulate through social networks. This material shows a red van in the middle of a desolate place of the Mexican entity. A heavily armed subject descends from the unit and is watched for a few moments.

As soon as he notices the presence of the drone, the subject points his AK-47 rifle at him. The unit immediately escapes the man's sights and moves away without losing sight of the vehicle in which it was being transported.

Subsequently, the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) helicopter followed the car to a sort of abandoned house from which another group of gunmen driving a black van left.

After exchanging a few words, both vans left the place to head towards an abandoned town, very close to the Texas-Tamaulipas border, although they fled that place moments later.

Elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) arrived at the scene after the TxDPS alerted the presence of potential criminals in the area.

After reviewing the site, the confrontation between the soldiers and the alleged criminals began. The result of this action was five hit men killed and four arrested, although it has not been explained which cartel they belong to.

The prompt action of the military should have been due to the fact that the federal agency has sent, so far, almost a thousand members to strengthen security in the state, due to the constant clashes and clashes between rival groups, as well as with the authorities themselves.

The first 738 soldiers were mobilized last Tuesday, March 15, along with four gunned helicopters. While on the afternoon of March 18, 250 elements belonging to the Special Forces Units arrived as part of the Joint Task Force “Mexico” to inhibit organized crime activities in Nuevo Laredo.

The communiqué issued by the federal agency stated that the main mission of these units is tostrengthen the rule of law and to collaborate with the authorities in the detention of members of crime organized, acting at all times with full respect for human rights”.

He added that among the features to be carried out are their mobility and ability to deploy, the weapons, material, equipment and specialized training they have for urban operations, which will strengthen inter-agency operations carried out in coordination with the Secretariat for Security and Protection Citizen, and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Republic, as well as with State and municipal authorities.

“These activities reaffirm the undeclinable decision of the federal government to continue to act against organized crime, meeting the needs that Tamaulipas society demands,” the bulletin said.

All these measures and reinforcements sent to Nuevo Laredo were taken for all the events resulting from the capture of Juan Gerardo Treviño Chávez, El Huevo, leader of the Northeast Cartel, last Sunday, March 13, which caused riots in the state to demand his freedom, which was not granted because it was already was extradited to the United States to continue his judicial process.
