Faced with the sudden resignation of the Minister of Housing, Jhonatan Malagón, President Iván Duque decided that Susana Correa Borrero should be in charge of the aforementioned government portfolio. The woman was already working within this government as director of Social Prosperity, but now she will be in charge of MinVivienda for the last four and a half months that the Duque administration has left.

The president explained that Malagón handed him his letter of resignation yesterday (March 22) because he is going to make an academic commitment to one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Likewise, he called the former minister one of the best in his administration, for which he thanked him “for his commitment to our country, for the achievements he has made, driving the highest historical sales of housing, achieving an expansion of developable land in our country, achieving more than 600,000 housing improvements.”

He also revealed that he immediately thought of Correa Borrero to lead MinVivienda because he is “a person who has also worked for reconstruction, who has worked to make housing improvement a matter of dignity.” It should be noted that the official is one of those who has been leading the reconstruction of Providencia, after the island was destroyed by the passage of Hurricane Iota.

Between 2014 and 2018, she was Senator of the Republic for the Democratic Center party. It is noted that in this position Correa was the author of the bills for the protection of infants and minors in arms and the requirement for the installation of family toilets in establishments open to the public. He was a speaker on bills such as the one for the creation of the Scholarship and Credit Information System (SNIBCE), which allows all citizens to know in a timely and detailed manner the offer of public and private scholarships in the country; the resolution of the border dispute between Chocó and Antioquia; the Transport Sanctions Regime; and regulation of prelegal collections of Icetex educational credits, the creation of the Pacific Administrative Region RAP, and the categorization of Cali as a special district, among others.

With this resume, President Duque is confident that Correa will make an excellent effort to finalize his Government. The president wished the official every success. It should be noted that the date on which the woman is officially appointed to office is pending.
