One of the most emblematic villains in Mexican soap operas is “Soraya Montenegro”, which has appeared on several occasions before the public. And it is that the character comes from the original story written by the late Inés Rodena, which was first captured in the radio soap opera When a son is given away.

Later, in 1979, Rocío Banquells played the character in The Rich Also Cry, but under the name “Esther”, the original name of the villain created by Rodena. However, it was until 1995, when Maria la del barrio was made, an adaptation of the story, that the character that Itatí Cantoral played masterfully became known.

The villain capable of any evil in order to separate María from Luis Fernando de la Vega made an impact with her characterization and the character catapulted Itatí Cantoral to fame international. In fact to date, the memorable antagonist appears in memes on social networks and has become a popular character in collective memory.

Now, this 2022, with the new version of The Rich Also Cry, the character - iconic enemy of the “cursed cripple” - returned, and who accepted to face the difficult challenge of playing the positioned character was actress Fabiola Guajardo.

Although the image of the villain is different, since this time she is blonde unlike Itatí's remembered black hair, the character in the story produced by Carlos Bardasano has attracted the attention of fans of the melodramatic genre.

Far from some rivalry or professional jealousy between colleagues, Itatí Cantoral and Fabiola Guajardo were seen sharing cordially and appeared together on their respective Instagram profiles. The actresses behind the iconic villain took a series of photographs in the dressing rooms of the play Sola en la oscuridad, starring Itatí.

“Which is not the same thing, but it is the same. Damn cripple. Life brings us back together without getting together, I adore you Cantoral! PS. Do yourselves a favor and go to the theater and watch Alone in the Dark. It's always a delight to see you on stage,” Fabiola Guajardo wrote, to which Itatí replied “I love you”.

In addition, in her profile, the renowned actress wrote: “My beautiful little sister. The new Soraya Montenegro. Love You”, to which Guajardo reverted “Te adorooo Queen”. Between both publications, the famous ones add up to more than 50,000 likes.

The carefree attitude of the actresses caught the attention of the followers, who wrote them multiple messages: “Las Sorayas”, “Super talented both”, “There will be thousands of Sorayas but you are unique, that does not mean that the girl is not a good actress, but I stay with you”, “Soraya squared”, “In the whole history of the telenovelas in Mexico there was only one Soraya, the best Itatí.”

Regarding the addition of “Soraya Montenegro” to the current Rich People Also Cry, the producer of the melodrama, Carlos Bardasano, told Infobae Mexico prior to the premiere:

All the characters are the originals of Los ricos also cry, in María la del barrio they changed her names, we wanted to go with the names of the original version, of the radio even, the only intention we had was with the one who was originally called Esther, he began because one of our writers is called Esther and it caused us a lot of confusion if we were talking about the character or the writer,” she says.

“If Soraya Montenegro, so wonderfully personified by Itatí, is a reference of villainess and evil on our television, you will see that there will be several winks for those who know and have seen all the versions, they know, it is a little gift that we give to the audience,” he uncovered at the end of February 2021.
