Antares Vázquez Alatorre, senator of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), launched herself against her counterpart in the National Action Party (PAN), Lilly Tellez, after the blue and white company assured that at the end of the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), the opposition will resume the project of the New Mexico International Airport (NAIM).

Through his Twitter account, Vázquez Alatorre launched a harsh criticism against the panista, in which he sarcastically recalled when Tellez spoke of her alleged uncovering to compete in the presidential elections of 2024. However, he called the blue and white senator a “traitor” because, before she belonged to the opposition bloc, she was part of the party that took López Obrador to the National Palace.

The Senate traitor is so furious about #AIFA and the Texcoco Decree, that she has already announced that the next six-year term she will annul the decree, make the NAIM and from there will be the first flight to Canada. She really thinks she'll be president. It reaffirms its classism and aspirationism!” , wrote the morenista on social networks.

Antares Vázquez's statements came after Lilly Tellez indicated that one of the first actions that the opposition will take, although she did not mention that she as a possible president of Mexico, will be to reverse the decree that promulgated the area of Lake Texcoco as a Protected Natural Area in order to make the air hub a reality in the area, which began construction during the administration of former PRI President Enrique Peña Nieto.

“This decree will be reversed in the next six years. The NAIM will be a reality as soon as we get these leperos out of power. The first flight will be to Canada, as a symbol of the citizens' aspiration for a safe country, with the rule of law, education, health, prosperity and freedom,” the journalist also wrote on her official Twitter account.

The legislator's words were in response to the tweet published by Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, general coordinator of Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic, who shared the decree that was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

It was during his morning conference on March 22 that López Obrador announced that Lake Texcoco is already considered a Natural Protected Area. The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), María Luisa Albores González, also reported on the details of the declaration.

According to the decree, the area comprises 14,000 hectares of which almost 10,660 are in the federal zone, 2,971 are ejido tenure and 379 of other types as private property. The Mexican municipalities that it covers are Atenco, Texcoco, Chimalhuacán, Nezahualcoyotl and Ecatepec; within them, work is carried out in 11 agrarian nuclei.

Thanks to the decree, more than 678 species of flora and fauna will be cared for, including some of the most representative species of the Valley of Mexico basin. In addition, the shelter will be protected for the more than 150 thousand specimens of migratory birds that arrive in winter.

Another reason why the decree was issued, according to Semarnat, is because the care of the area will lead to a reduction of polluting particles in the air, which will increase the ventilation of the conurbate area and regulate the temperature.

Lake Texcoco has a biocultural identity due to the management and use of spirulina algae, ahuautle, tequesquite and the protection of the axolotl, in addition to the historical importance it has for the Mexican people, since, as María Luisa Albores explained, this lake is present in the national coat of arms.
