The legislative elections of March 13 continue to generate controversy and has become one of the most followed topics by users on social networks. Although registrar Alexander Vega requested a recount of votes, a proposal that was withdrawn last Tuesday, 22, it has now become known that two out of every 10 voting juries were not trained to perform their duties in the elections that defined the new members of the congress and the candidates of the three coalitions.

Due to what happened in the pre-count, the E14 form and the counting, where the Historical Pact recovered nearly 400,000 votes and added three more seats to the Senate, the same registrar assured that it is false that the juries would have lacked training since, “we have certification that, of those 727,823 jurors, 80.54% were trained . That is, the figure of 578,615 juries.”

Which means that two out of 10 voting juries did not receive the training, however, he said, “It is not possible to continue talking about electoral fraud in Colombia. We are going to improve the pre-counting and transmission of information.” He was emphatic in noting that face-to-face and virtual training took place in all departments of the country.

“We did interactive virtual training sessions of 40 minutes and practices of 80 minutes,” said registrar Alexander Vega, who was one of the big ones highlighted by some political sectors after the results of the poll in which parties such as the Democratic Center, the Centro Esperanza coalition and the Liberal Party were known. were affected by losing a seat in the Senate.

Regarding everything that happened, Vega strongly stated that, “we are not talking about juries who were illiterate or illiterate, we are talking about people who had a minimum academic background (...) here no votes have been lost. In many cases, there were human errors in the completion of form E14 and the subsequent transmission of the information.”

Regarding what happened recently in which, despite criticism and requests by some political sectors for the results of the elections, the registrar, was one of the most criticized, even some politicians affirmed that he should resign from office, however, V ega satisfied with what happened at the time of the consensus with the parties.

Some of the criticisms received by the registrar came from the Democratic Center, such as Senator María del Rosario Guerra, who stated that, “Registrar Álex Vega deserves to resign. The recount gave guarantees to all parties and applicants.”

Paloma Valencia also criticized Vega, noting that, “the registrar is in arrears of resigning, it's not whether it's good or bad, it's that there is a doubt about the system and he must take responsibility. This didn't happen many years ago in Colombia, so he must resign.”

I don't feel defeated, I feel the winner that most parties won't accept my request; very good because the point of honor is consensus and if that request served to generate consensus, I think it is satisfactory for the electoral process,” Vega said.

Despite the uncertainties generated in the legislative elections, the Office of the National Registry will continue to work to provide guarantees in the presidential elections. “We will continue to work, I fully trust the decisions taken by the National Electoral Council, I believe in the scrutiny and the alternative that I had presented was to seek that tranquility.”
