A landslide resulting from heavy rains in Junín completely blocked the road that connects with the city of Pozuzo, in the central jungle of the country on Tuesday. In this way, the Huaicos continue to affect thousands of citizens in different localities.
The incident, according to Canal N, occurred on the highway that connects the districts of Huancabamba and Pozuzo, in the province of Oxapampa. An immense landslide affected approximately one thousand meters of road surface, the same ones that were razed. The dangerous thing is that the magnitude of the huaico reached the other bank of the Huancabamba River, where it has been contained in certain sections.
Several vehicles were stranded in the area. It is striking that passengers risk their lives trying to continue their journey amid mud and stones, as there are still smaller landslides in the area. Some claimed that they had an urgency to travel, but when they tried to reach their destinations they jeopardized their integrity.
Urgent machinery is required to clear the road, and it is estimated that the work would take a week due to the magnitude of the huaico. Meanwhile, heavy rains continue in the region.
So far, no injuries or human losses have been reported. However, there are several people affected. For example, as the flow of the Huancabamba river grew, a suspension bridge was completely disabled by the crescent, leaving several homes and families isolated. As a result, they cannot take out their products and there is a risk that they will be left unstocked with basic necessities.
In addition, they are out of communication precisely now that face-to-face classes have started. An urgent rescue operation is required.
