Violence occurs throughout the country; however, there are states where the situation affecting their population is even more reflected, specifically because of the conflict between criminal drug trafficking groups that seek to take over the “square” in order to increase its size and distribution power.

To achieve this goal, they produce an atmosphere of terror that is culminated in murders and femicides whose sole objective is citizens who seek to escape and not be victims of this lawsuit, although it is very difficult to do so.

This situation has been reflected in the figures. During the first two months (January-February) of 2022, Mexico recorded 4,854 victims of intentional homicide and femicide, which meant a 14% reduction compared to the same period in 2021. “A total of 82 people were killed daily,” said the civil association Mexico United Against Crime (MUCD).

Of the total, Michoacán was the state with the highest percentage of cases in this period, with 490 people, while Colima had the highest casualty rate, which was 15 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 4 nationwide.

Michoacán is once again the focus of the country's attention due to several violent incidents that leave us in doubt as to what is happening with security in this entity and the occurrence of violent events,” said MUCD.

Concerns were also expressed that only three municipalities accounted for 11% of the investigations initiated into these crimes nationwide: 241 in Tijuana, Baja California; 129 in Juarez, Chihuahua; and 81 in Morelia, Michoacán.

For its part, the territory of Zamora was the one that presented the highest rate of investigations initiated for homicide between January and February 2022, with 32 trials per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 3 nationwide.

Finally, the civil organization warned that, since 2016, more than two thousand homicides and femicides have been recorded every month throughout the country, a situation that does not show a significant decrease over time.

Another crime recorded by MUCD was against personal freedom. In the accumulated bimonthly period, 4,123 victims were registered, which means that they increased by 17%. The state of Mexico was the state of Mexico (with 973), while Hidalgo has the highest victimization rate (10 victims per 100,000 inhabitants, against 3 nationwide).

Cases of extortion at the national level were also reported. It was reported that up to February 2022 there were 1,471 victims, 13% higher than the same period last year. The State of Mexico accounted for 36% of the total number of cases reported nationally (532 victims). The three municipalities with the highest number of investigations initiated during this period belong to this entity: Toluca (64), Ecatepec de Morelos (43) and Nezahualcoyotl (41).

In addition, crimes against sexual freedom and security during the first two months of 2022 reached 10,040 investigation kits initiated nationally, a situation that represents 10% compared to 2021. State of Mexico and Mexico City accounted for 27% of total cases.

Finally, it was announced that the only category that fell nationally, with only 1% down, was investigations for domestic and gender-based violence, since 35,913 began nationwide in January and February 2022. The state with the highest number of recorded cases was Mexico City (5,094), representing 14% of the total.
