Qualifying Table: This Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March will be the 17th and penultimate date of the qualifiers heading to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Four teams are looking for a place in the World Cup and are thus placed before the penultimate day.
Between March 24 and 29, the last FIFA double date of the qualifiers will be played and the direct quotas for the World Cup and the place for the playoff with the Asian Confederation will be decided.
Brazil and Argentina have already qualified for the World Cup. However, Ecuador, Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Colombia are the four teams with options that will define their place in the standings to win their ticket to Qatar.
In the absence of six points in dispute in the next two games, the difference between Uruguay's fourth place and Colombia's seventh place is five units. Except for Ecuador third with 25 points, the other teams have not yet secured their ranking.
WHAT IS PLAYED ON THE 17TH DATE OF THE PLAYOFFS
The 17th and penultimate date of the qualifying rounds puts two places at stake for the Qatar 2022 World Cup (third and fourth place) and one place in the repechage (fifth place). The difference in points between the selections means that, in any case, positions can be reversed, the ranking confirmed or left out of the top five places, depending on the combination of results.
Ecuador, which visits Paraguay, is the best placed team (3rd) with 25 points and that only needs one point (a draw) to secure at least the repechage against Qatar 2022.
Uruguay from fourth place and Peru in fifth, two direct rivals, face each other in Montevideo. The Celeste with 22 points and the white with 21, depending on the result, could decide the final stage of the qualifying round with one date missing. A Charrúa win could classify it directly, depending on the result of Chile vs Brazil, and in case the bicolor does not lose it could secure the repechage zone, but it needs other results.
Chile marches in sixth place with 19 points and clashes with Brazil in Maracana. The 'Roja' has the difficult task of beating Canarinha in Rio de Janeiro and then on the last date of the qualifiers to define with Uruguay in Santiago.
Colombia is measured against Bolivia in Barranquilla and they are looking for the feat. Coffee growers with 17 points must win and wait for a combination of results to reach the final date with chances, but also waiting for what the other teams will do. On the other hand, Argentina clashes with Venezuela in an unpretentious match between both teams. The ranked albiceleste and the 'Vinotinto' in the last place in the standings.
