The '10′ of the national team has not had a great performance in the Qatari league, in addition, in the last match of Al-Rayyan, which was against Al-Shamal, before James will arrive in Colombia for the concentration with the national team, he did not play. On the other hand, he has been losing prominence within the team despite having scored some goals, as his absence has been more constant.

For a few days, James Rodríguez arrived in Colombia to join the concentration of the 'tricolor' since this Thursday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 30, he will face the teams of Bolivia and Venezuela, respectively, for the last double date of the South American Qualifiers to Qatar 2022.

Former Argentine player and coach Jorge Valdano spoke on Tuesday for Blog Deportivo where he commented again on the same thing he said in 2020 about the Colombian Al-Rayyan “I feel like I have failed with James Rodriguez”.

“It gives the feeling that he has been going down steps. He had the enormous opportunity to reach the top very young, thanks to the World Cup in Brazil, which placed him among the best players in the world”, was the first thing that Valdano said, who also confessed that he is a fan of James's left-handed since the first day he was presented at the Santiago Bernabeu before almost 50 thousand madridistas.

He added that: “He came to Real Madrid at a time when the club was in a brilliant competitive situation. He completed a very good first year and, little by little, he was blurring.”

Regarding his transition from being one of the best debuts that there was in the 'merengue' squad, to being another player in a Qatari league team, he mentioned: “It must be recognized that arriving in Qatar when he was so young heralds a football decline of the player. I would not be able to explain the reasons why he has had enough talent.”

Despite the fact that James Rodriguez is not at his best, Valdano commented that the Colombian is still young and that for this reason he believes that he can return to being an elite player. “Surely yes. He is an imaginative player, very technical and unbalanced. What happens is that the day to day and the touch to the first competitive level, helps a lot to the evolution of a player.”

To conclude, Valdano insisted that the Qatari league is far from being part of high-performance football: “It is very difficult for me to find that in a championship like that in Qatar. That is an unquestionable reality. Playing in LaLiga or the Premier, where every match is a challenge, is not the same as playing in Qatar, where the pressures are less.”
