Didi driver stabbed a passenger who refused to pay what he asked

This is not the first time that such a problem has occurred with an application user

Although it seems absurd, this kind of thing happens more often in our country than we imagine. Recently, a user of the Didi app used the service in Medellin to travel from Itagüí to his home in Robledo Pilarica. Before applying for the trip, he would not have imagined that he would end up having one of the worst experiences of his life.

José Miguel Ceballos ordered the vehicle as normal. Upon arrival at his destination, he proceeded to pay for the service, but the driver was charging him twice as much as indicated by the application. The young man did not understand the situation and refused to pay the figure, arguing that this was not the real value. In the afternoon of that day he had made the same journey and it had cost him about 26,000 pesos. Now, the driver charged him more than 50,000.

The man did not take José Miguel's claim in a good way and reacted aggressively. After a word crossing, he attacked the young man. “If you are not going to pay me what I tell you, get off”, says the affected person who told him the driver. “I made the decision to get off, I threw the door at him and he immediately got down and he threw himself on me. I run back and feel like he's pulling me with his hand, then I realize I have a wound.”

The young man wears glasses over his face. They look too big above the mask. Look medium-long hair just above the forehead. It's black. After attending a medical center where he was given three points and gave him several days of disability, the young man was interviewed by TeleMedellín and was shocked at what happened. “I said 'I was at a barbecue, with my friends, normal, I asked for a car and I'm in the emergency room because a person just stabbed me', like there was no room in my conscience that this was really happening to us and that's how the insecurity of the streets was like,” he said.

In this regard, the spokespersons for the application, through a statement, rejected the aggression and asked its users to report such situations in order to take appropriate sanctions in time. “We strongly reject any violent act that arises during an application brokered by the application. We immediately received the case report, the security team activated its protocols, contacted the user and began the analysis in order to take appropriate security measures (...). We are committed to the safety of the community, which is why anyone who uses our application improperly, in breach of the terms and conditions, will be blocked from the platform,” said the company.

Although mobile applications for ordering transportation services have become the main alternative for people, complaints about care and safety do not stop. It occurs in taxis and private cars, as well as motorcycles. The case of José Miguel is one more among many. It should be recalled that one of the most popular recently was that of Nelson Villamil, who on January 30 of this year was denounced to the Prosecutor's Office for having abused a 19-year-old girl whom he picked up through an application.

These acts only attest that the internal processes of the companies in charge of these applications, regarding the selection of their drivers, are not rigorous enough and, although they cannot anticipate such events, they can guarantee that their workers do not have a violent personality and will not end up attacking the slightest neglect. I hope no more cases come out of here. We'll have to see.
