Carlos Fernando Galán's curious strategy: he invites to vote for Fico so that Fajardo wins and Petro loses

For the former Bogotá councilman, the only one who can beat the leader of the Historical Pact in a possible runoff is the candidate of the Centro Esperanza Coalition

More than two months after the first presidential round, political leaders have already started to draw lots to know who might arrive as the new successor of Ivan Duque. One of them is the former Senate candidate, Carlos Fernando Galán, who unveiled a particular strategy that would allow presidential candidate Sergio Fajardo to come to power.

Through his social networks, Galán assured that those who want Gustavo Petro to be head of state should vote for Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez since, as he explained, it is unlikely that the candidate of the Team for Colombia will beat the candidate of the Historical Pact in a possible runoff.

The former candidate for mayor of Bogotá assured that people who consider Gutierrez to be the only one who can beat Petro in a ballot are wrong. “They eat the story that 'Fico' can be the rooster to face Petro,” he said.

For the youngest son of Luis Carlos Galán, this situation is unlikely and would be demonstrated by the results received by the former mayor of Medellín in the internal consultation, where he won more than 2 million votes, but which fell far short of the results that the right-wing consultation achieved in 2018, when it won 6 million votes.

“People are starting to say: this is with Fico. This is a monumental mistake,” said the former city councilman, who resigned his seat in the council to run into the Senate. However, his party did not have enough votes and no one on this list was elected.

Along these lines, Galán assures that if Petro and Gutiérrez pass to the second round, Sergio Fajardo's votes will be divided and, according to his calculations, Petro would win the Presidency with 9 million votes, defeating Fico who would win 7.

“Most likely, the voters in Fajardo [...] for the second round will split. [...] Half the votes go to 'Fico' and half the votes go to Petro. Take accounts,” he said.

However, in another scenario that Galán devised, a ballot was imagined, but between Petro and Fajardo. That is where the central politician has the greatest hopes, since not only does he ensure that Fajardo will keep the votes he would receive in the first round, but he is convinced that he will win the leader of Human Colombia.

Along these lines, he predicted how the political landscape would unfold in one of those scenarios: “If 'Fico' goes to the second round, Petro is president. If Fajardo goes to the second round, Fajardo is president”, he concluded.

Carlos Fernando Galán's statement did not go unnoticed by several of Gustavo Petro's followers. For example, activist Humberto Coral, better known as Beto Coral, criticized the strategy of the brother in the middle of the Galán and assured that Sergio Fajardo is an uribist.

“He practically meant that Fajardo is Uribe. Without the uribists, they cannot beat Petro and he invites them to support him. This video, by far, is the most STUPID video of the campaign, exposes its candidate and as such generates the opposite effect,” he said.

Likewise, the youtuber Lalis left another criticism of Galán and invited him to vote for Petro, who continues to score in the voting intention polls. “Stop making a fool of yourself, what kind of proposals are these? The country with an abandoned camp, with a food crisis, with informal work overflowing without state support and it occurs to you to make this video bullshit. See you at the polls!” , he assured.
